They had a great scout in the area at that time and got lots of local talent. Their team was made up of North East lads like Jimmy Adamson and Ray Pointer. Good job we managed to get him when Alan Brown was here otherwise players like Suddick and Todd would probably also have ended up at Burnley

It was Alan Brown who set the Burnley scouting up and he brought the man who did it, Charlie Ferguson, with him when he came to Roker in the 50s.

Yes Ferguson was Burnley's north east scout when Alan Brown was manager there. Didn't know he came to Sunderland with Brown, assumed he was poached later.
He was responsible for Sunderland's youth policy under Brown and found a lot of gems for us in Scotland and N Ireland as well. Those were the days.
