i suggest we start to standards like pantone colours of hex values.

for example i'm about: pantone 5025 c or #dbbbbe

it would take all the confusion out of it.

TYR SNPs and some data on their geographical distribution: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/SNP/snp_ref.cgi?rs=1042602

Carries a Serine to Tyrosine mutation at position 192 which predominates in Europeans and is almost never observed in East Asians.

OCA2 SNPs - Histidine to Arginine at position 615 which predominates in Asian communities: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/SNP/snp_ref.cgi?rs=1800414

One might conclude European and East Asian skin colour similarity is an example of convergent evolution rather than the ancestral state...
Cheers . Went back and found the paper I was thinking off the fact it was subsequently quoted in the mail probably means it was Bollix .

Good idea. And when you want to single out a specific ethnicity by skin colour, you do it by specifying a binary bit mask to be applied to the pantone. That will stop most racism, as it's beyond the grasp of the thick.

there is also a 'colour of the year'. imagine if your pigment was chosen as colour of the year. how cool would that be...? it's Marsala - Pantone 18-1438 this year, or #955251 in hex:

If you like. I don't buy the whole "blackboard was banned" nonsense.

It's too much of a coincidence that the phrase disappeared around the time computer/projector use became common.

EDIT: I can see why the ba ba ba black sheep song would be discouraged.

I hope you never have kids.

My brother in law is black. My wife's best mate's boyfriend is black. If I were trying to point either of them out in a crowd and he was the only black bloke in a group, I would say the black bloke to save time. If the two of them were stood together and I wanted to point one of them out, I would say my brother in law is the taller one with the glasses.

But funnily enough none of our friends appear to be black.

Shame on you CM.

Right, next, Asian, is it really right that we just use "Asian" when sometimes we mean the good folk of Pakistan and surrounding countries and when sometimes we mean, for example, Japanese people despite the fact they dont look alike in the slightest and are 3,000 miles away from each other? Are we meant to use "oriental appearance" to refer to the latter or is that wrong. Just thought id start another daft debate
You call them nine - eleveny Asians and good at maths Asians. I think that's the pc way.

Taking the piss here, sorry mods

Are you still allowed to refer to very dark skinned people as Negroes or is that word now full of racist connotations?

I'll answer my own question by Wikipedia.

According to Oxford Dictionaries, use of the word Negro "now seems out of date or even offensive in both British and US English"

Haven't read the whole thread or the news article, but was this black people being offended by his innocent comments or patronising t***ts being offended on their behalf?

What if there's a tall white bloke with glasses or Asian?
