Morgan told he cannot pick KP

So Paul Downton has told Morgan he can't recall his good friend KP into the fold after taking the reigns as captain.

What a load of shit. Talk about having one hand tied behind your back. Some very precious personalities in the ECB. No wonder a winning culture is so hard to breed in this country.

Got a link for that?

While I am a massive an of Pietersen the cricketer, the bloke has probably pissed off far too many people, and brings too much media circus and dressing room instability to be a viable pick. At his form 5 years ago you could possibly make an exception for that, but he is 34 and not the player he once was...

Mate, seriously nobody likes everyone they work with, some even despise others but everyone loves winning. And that's what this is all about. They need to grow the fuck up and act like men.

How can you pick a player that has accused your best bowlers of being bullies, calls a fellow batsman too short to be an international cricketer, has no time for the coach and won't play county cricket, just big bash T20?

He'd have to be a lot better than he currently is to warrant this amount of tail wagging the dog.

Err could KP not grow up, or at least learn to put the lid on his ego rather than the umpteen players and coaches he has pissed off?

Whether KP is picked or not, English cricket will continue to go backwards while Giles Clarke, Downton & Moores are there. Fortunately Clarke seems to be moving out of his role early next year with Colin Graves replacing him.
Completely this. Arguing about KP etc is a side show...we are back to the 90's lads. The acrid stench of failure is all around.

England's best batsman by a country mile. Not to mention the most entertaining and marketable. Should be playing and the others should simply have to deal with it.

Bang average in the last two Ashes, I'd rather watch Butler.

We need Broad and Anderson more than KP and seems evident we can not accommodate both sides.

The captain is not a selector, Cook wasn't and Morgan isn't.

The wording of the OP is slightly misleading, what actually happened was journos asked Downton and Whittaker whether KP would be picked now Morgan is captain. The answer was nothing has changed in the ECB's position on KP.

PD:
"We parted company with Kevin in January because throughout the ECB management, from the dressing room up to the board, it was felt that it was the right decision to go in a slightly different direction. If anything, more bridges have been burnt by Kevin's book. There is no interest from our point of view in going backwards. We've got an exciting group of young players and Eoin's excited to be working with those guys. He wants to fulfil that team's potential."

JW:
"The ECB management made this decision in January and it is the same decision now. There is no way that Kevin Pietersen will ever get back into an England team,"

KP's reaction:
"Despite the rather disrespectful comments by Paul Downton and James Whitaker yesterday, I remain determined to regain my England place!"

i am actually looking forward to the tri series now. imo there is a massive weight lifted and hopefully this new generation can at least show an attacking mind set.

one thing though, why have bell still in?

KP hasn't played anything other than T20 this year, and has hardly blazed attacks around on a regular basis

If he was that serious about playing for England again he would have made a point of scoring runs for Surrey in all competitions. He didn't.

He's a gobshite, but a great batsman

This. He was told when interviewed when his book was realeased that if he'd have scored 1500 runs for Surrey the ECB would HAVE to take notice of him. I believe it's all just a front. He has no intention of playing for England again, he just likes the sound of his own voice. Bell end.

The captain is not a selector, Cook wasn't and Morgan isn't.
Morgan was in Aussie playing in the big bash when the squad was selected, not only is he not a selector it would appear that he's not even consulted about the selection.

KP's no good to anyone unless he starts playing full time cricket again, and undertaking the practice that goes with it, including 1st class cricket. His one day form would be far better if he was playing more cricket of all forms.

As for England selection. Not sure why Downton would get involved. Morgan doesn't pick the team he's captain of it!

Bang average? Wasnt he our top scorer?

Bell was top scorer by some distance in the home series.

In Australia Pietersen had the most gross runs, but only 15 more than Stokes in 2 more innings. Also, only 13 more runs than Carberry and I don't see a hullabaloo for him to get picked.

An average of 29 is poor regardless of how your peers perform.

I keep saying this....the question of KP's non selection is a side show which I don't have the energy to argue about anymore. The real spectre at the feast is the regime which is in place. Back to the old school tie and the congratulating of weak willed meandering failure.
