Chronic insomnia

I work shifts, and stressing about sleep is the worst thing in the world, thinking you HAVE to be asleep at a certain time means you never get to sleep. There are some good natural herbal remedies out there.
This. Thinking about getting to sleeps makes it impossible to get to sleep.

Just relax, empty your mind and drift off.

Get fucked
Did last night and I did fall asleep straight away but woke up an hour later and then took me 3 hours or so to get back off to sleep
But I do keep telling our lass that bj's are so relaxing before bed and she could help cure my insomnia.
She takes fuck all notice of me like

Whats 5htp?

I've been taking it for years marra, it has been known as a herbal prozac as it lifts your mood especially after a bender on the drink, I also found it helped me sleep deeper and wake up fresher, it isn't cheap but as I say you can get the capsules from Holland and Barrett and it won't show on any dugs tests as its a naturally occuring substance in the body. Just be wary of them lucid dreams if you take them late at night, I've found the best time to take them is with my evening meal.

Thanks mate, going to get some

I've struggled with this for over a year now - the stress of knowing I can't get to sleep!
I've no other worries, my only worry is sleeping!
It seems to have got worse the last few months, as previously I used to be able to sleep ok ish every other night, but now I hardly sleep at all, which is effecting my job, and now my parenting (I'm often too tired and irritable) and also my relationship (again, tired/irritable).
I've been doing a sleep diary after finally going to the doctors again to properly moan about it (they did nothing at all when I first went around 6 months ago) .
Has anyone else had any experience with this?
I've got a few books, don't know if anyone could suggest any thing which helped them
Change their lives?
I'm considering hypnotherapy - just wondered if anyone had tried this aswell?
Open to all sorts of suggestions!
(I do sleep when pissed, but don't want to turn into having to drink every night to fall asleep !)
Quit the booze, or at least stop the heavy weekend sessions, it can effect your sleep patterns for several days afterwards and if you are a poor sleeper anyway just make the problem worse.

Nar, I'm a binge drinker like, but generally fit and healthy (box and gym 5/6 times a week).
I was off last weekend and got pissed thurs / fri/ sat and Sunday though and slept ok every night, though don't want you get into the habit of doing that!

I'm off to get nytol today (think the there's a stronger one behind the counter you ask for?) and see if OHS approve it.

I feel for you marra.
I got used to not having a couple of nights sleep a week, and functioning ok - still made myself goto the gym and do stuff, but it's now nearly every night and really effecting my life
Binge drinking worst thing you can do for insomnia...3 or 4 days of after effects

Cheers marra, but I don't drink too much, I'm a bit of a health freak, normally just once every ten to fifteen days
I don't think I could drink less than this tbh

Cheers Gra lad , I've got a lot of these, but my issue is getting to sleep , not staying asleep - dyou still think they're worthwhile?
I've read somewhere that seratonin is made when you sleep, so if you don't sleep you produce no serotonin so get depressed, therefor these could help as do they help produce seretonin ?

My only stress is not sleeping!
I feel my life is pretty good otherwise, though I do need to be on the ball for my job, and that's why I stress mainly - knowing I need to get a good sleep to be ok for work .
I'm off work till Tuesday and slept better last night, but still nowhere near like enough!

Yeah, I try and do something similair, like imaging I'm out working the dog on a familiar route, and I start drifting but then there's something in my brain which stops me properly drifting off.
It's really annoying !
That could be enough as daft as it sounds. Not sure if any of those tablets will help produce seratonin mind. You could always pop into Holland and Barrett and see.

Apparently they do.Theyre pretty much the same make up as my citalopram`s off the docs

If you have an iPhone try an app called Deep Sleep it helped me. Read or a while then it is all about disengaging your thought process. I was told once to consciously think about
relaxing your body as if air is slowly leaking out from your feet. As you work your way up imagining you are slowly deflating/relaxing I usually don't remember getting past my knees
as I am usually asleep. It works for me.
I've used this fella's apps in the past. Might be the same one:

correct mate and it also regulates the production of melatonin too which regulates the sleep cycle:
