indias day, 311 for 4 at the close. mitchell marsh injured himself and is off. no wickets for johnson from 15 overs. starc and hazelwood are playing for siddle and harris. talk of siddle being finished?

murali vijay made 144. dhoni and ashwin have returned to the team

Starc and Hazlewood (their best bowler on the day) broke down in the heat as well.

Shame we never made them bowl for any appreciable period of time.

Who was the last team to beat the crims at the Gabba?

Just done some googling - West Indies in 1988. 18 Aussie wins and 7 draws since.

That's some record for the Aussies there!

Terrific day for India. What's up with Siddle and Harris? They just managing Harris before the Ashes?

Quadriceps. Same knee as his hamstring problem.

I don't rate his chances of playing next summer.

India will be disappointed to finish 408 from 311/4. Some terrific swing by the debut lad Hazlewood, could be a dangerous player for them next summer.

he was excellent, generated some good pace at times too.

Aussies looking like they are ready to hand the urn back again.

Wouldn't say that like.

They will miss Clarke, but have 2 of the best young batsmen in the world in Smith and Warner

And they seem to have unlimited supplies of young fast bowlers

I agree that the 5-0 was them at their peak and us at our lowest, be interesting to see how it develops, plenty of cricket to be played

Aussies weak as piss against the spinners again, on a spin-unfriendly pitch to boot. IMO this will be the key to defeating them next summer, we must get Ali + 1 other (Rashid/Borthwick) firing on all cylinders before then.

Personally I think it is more that they are struggling when being behind in the game, I think they are the type of side that if you win the toss, bat first, there batsmen are good at setting the pace but not so good under score board pressure

Eh? I haven't looked at the detail but they've scored at better than 4 an over in the innings and lost 1 wicket to a spinner  Agree it would be the best way to attack them but I'm not sure we've got an attack that's better than theirs to take advantage of turners.

Was your earlier post about Siddle or Harris?

I'm still not convinced about the Aussie batting line up, I think there's a collapse in them and they perform much better when they're in the ascendancy, most of all Warner when he's able to go out and cut loose with no pressure on. He can take a game away from you on his day (which seems to be more regular now).

Hes excellent - the likes of him, Cummins and Pattison all have a bit about them but injuries have hampered their progress. Hazlewood played alongside Rocky in Sydney grade cricket for a couple of years.

Harris. Watch the highlights, struggled to read Ashwin, thick edges all owa the place.

Aussies looking ready to hand the urn back. Theyre right back in this, like i say theyll go on to win it

Steve smith is world class now, tremendous player

Fair enough, didn't look like it did them much harm today either.

When I saw the scores at the close yesterday I wouldn't have expected an Aussie 1st innings lead.

India struggling with the tail again. Nos 8-11 scored nearly 200 runs. When things aren't going their way they hoy the towel in very easily...

Ya put the kybosh on that!!
