Broad may be a short term fix as ODI skipper due to his fitness but needs must I'm afraid.
Ballance gets runs across all formats and is a like for like for trott who has a good ODI record.
Hales hasn't set world alight but must be persevered with and Roy has come off a wonderful limited overs season and has that bit of arrogance required at top level.
Patel has had his opportunities but I think he gives the side a bit of balance.
Stokes is another who needs persevering with as he is a massive talent who needs a run of games.
Don't think this can be any worse than the shambles we've just witnessed in Sri Lanka.

Isn't Plunkett injured, or if not injured has he proven he's recovered?

Stokes is an enigma. I think he's a better and more of a match winner than the likes of Woakes but England don't seem to get the best out of him, in fact he seems to go backwards when he's with them. So I dunno what to do for the best with regard to him but it would be a big risk including him in the 15.

I wouldn't want Broad as captain either, I don't think he's got the mentality and from what he's said in the past I don't think he wants the position either. I'd look to Patel maybe before him ot Root.

Of course you know the best one day player on the county scene last season was Colly :p

i predict this XI will start the first world cup game

cook, moeen, root, bell, taylor, morgan, buttler, woakes, broad, tredwell, anderson

hales, jordan, stokes, bopara. will make up the squad

Rashid for Patel and your not far off Joe! Squad at the minute is far to predictable!

What I think it should be.

Ali
Bell
Trott
Root
Taylor
Butler
Bopara
Woakes
Broad
Finn/Tredwell
Anderson

I'm making the big assumption that Trott is ready for a tour.

Plus

Hales
Jordan
Stokes (biased opinion)

I agree with that squad with 1 exception but who would captain. I'm biased so wouldn't pick Stokes. It's in his and the team's interests that he has a break, then full pre-season and early season with Durham to regain his best form. I think Plunkett will replace him in the WC squad.

Gurney and Stokes out, Anderson and Broad in.

This is what I see happening like.

Why even suggest this? The ECB are never going to make 7 changes

Why suggest it? It's called an opinion. I'm fully aware the ECB will toe the party line and stick with the tried, tested and failed but for me something drastic needs to happen.
Our one day side had been mostly poor for over twenty year now and we keep on making the same mistakes time and time again.
Atherton, hussain, Vaughan, Strauss and now cook shouldn't be near a ODI side yet we never seem to learn our lesson.
Yet another dire World Cup campaign beckons.

Starting XI:

Roy
Bell
Taylor
Root
Modern Ali
Buttler
Bopara
Woakes
Broad
Tredwell
Finn

Reserves: Hales, Ballance, Anderson, Rashid

Ali and Root should offer enough spin options in Australia and New Zealand without the need for Patel (plus England will pick Tredwell). I don't think there's any way you can leave Taylor out.

Hales
Modern
Taylor
Root
Morgan
Stokes
Bopara
Buttler
Woakes
Broad
Anderson

Subs
Jordan, Tredwell, Roy, Vince.

far too hit and miss for me that, morgan is never ever a number 4, he has struggled as he is coming in too early, he is a finisher

People are getting too carried out away with aggressive cricket, we have been bowled out in 9 of our last 12 innings, for me, pick your best players

Bell
Ali
Trott
Ballance
Root
Buttler
Morgan
Woakes
Broad
Finn
Jimmy

Subs

Hales
Tredwell
Stokes
Taylor

We need to get back to actually scoring runs, forget about 330, because we can't even bat out 50 overs currently.

Modern Ali
Bell
Taylor
Root
Morgan
Bopara
Buttler
Rashid
Woakes
Broad
Anderson

Reserves
Hales, Finn, Tredwell, Vince

Surprised a lot of people are going with Bopara, all about opinions mind. He won't bowl much in Australia, is he really one of the best 6 English one day batsmen? I am not having that.

You make a good point regarding needing to bat the full 50 overs.
I've tried to balance (pardon the pun) out the admittedly gung ho opening pair by having a player like ballance at 3 who could hopefully give us what we are missing with trott.
Agree with you regarding Bopara as well. Think it's time to put him out to grass to be honest. Got ability but has never really seized his chance of which there have been plenty.

Cook's gone as ODI captain apparently, The Telegraph reporting the Morgan to be skipper and speculates that Balance to be his replacement in the squad.

Its astonishing so many people are against Tredwell. He has the best economy rate of all of our bowlers and only marginally worse than Swanny.

I wouldn't be disappointed to see him play, picked my team really just based on power and youth.
