I've just applied for a bike on our work cyclescheme thing.

I done this several years ago and ended up with a mountain bike that turned out to be a load of rubbish.

I've been looking at a Hybrid bike as I think I would use that more as it would be better than mtb on the roads and I could still do the occasional ride off road.

I would probably ride more on the road than off road but would still like the option to go off road on it as there are some woods to ride through on my way to work.

My voucher thing is for £400 so that is the limit

So far I have found these but have no idea if they are any good. Anyone able to offer any advice or recommend any bikes

Cheers

I couldn't ever bring myself to advise anyone to get a hybrid (spit), so I shan't. What I would recommend is get a bike that doesn't have suspension. At that price range, you're not going to get anything that comes close to working. It'll weigh the bike down, slow you down and just, in general, be shit.

Where are you based?

I've changed me voucher to £500 so not sure if theres better choice, I've seen some decent reviews on this Trek one and quite fancy that now, looks like it will be perfect for what I need. It will no doubt be a novelty after a few months so that's why I didn't really want to get a higher value voucher

what's a cyclo cross bike ? I'm confused cos there's so much choice out there and I don't want to do what I done a few year ago and get a bike I didn't like and have it gathering dust in the garage

Ive had my roam 3 years and commuted daily...put 6500km on it this year alone. Its been pretty much bomb proof bar the usual stuff...tyres servicing etc. Ive got a roadie for the summer/weekends etc. Next commuter will be a cyclocross...

I'm no expert but basically a road bike on hybrid-ish tyres

I got a Boardman hybrid a couple of years ago and it's been great for the price and what I use it for (occasional commuting and weekend trails, nowt muddy). Only bad thing is the gears, only 2 on the front so can't do hills very well (well I can't cause I'm shit). I like the fact that it's more of a road hybrid than a MTb hybrid.

If I got a new one id look at a cyclocross but I'd love to know what the difference is really. They look mint.

finally after a bit of a wait got me cycle scheme voucher sorted and pick it up at the weekend.

went down to one of the shops and spent a good couple of hours going through different bikes , went for the trek 7.2 fx in the end as it seemed to be what I wanted at a half decent price.

Can't wait to get out on it now
