Let me refelect on this

Yes, I've thought about and I can't let the typo go

You won't be entering I take it?

Too busy rolling the neck up on your jumpers!
It's a good one for me, just shove another panoramic landscape in ;).

Worth noting that everything ever photographed is a reflection ( of light bouncing off the subject ;). )

Poor turn out, guess it's a busy time of year for people. Do people want to extend portrait into January or end it and start the new topic?

Some thoughts

The best photography thread has been on the SMB section (ironically.) It’s successful because people enjoy looking at the photographs (there’s hardly any photos on this section of the board.)

This section of the board has far fewer views (and far fewer photographs) than a couple of years ago – need to make it more interesting.

1) Suggestion: Start a single on-going thread for anyone to post as many photos as they wish – the only rule being they have to be their own photos. I for one want to see folks shots since I can learn from them – and Talk Photography as a board is mind-numbingly rubbish!! People can comment – or not – but if they like the photos – they can “Like” them using the board facility. At the end of the month – the photo with the most Likes is the winner of that unofficial competition. A single post can have one or more photos included – but they all need to be a decent viewing size rather than the tiny versions that get displayed automatically

That should get the number of views up – and that in turn will lead to a greater number of people wanting to take part in the Photography competition.

2) As ICBYD keeps suggesting – make the competition run over 2 months – so at any one time – there can be two themes that folks can shoot for; this month and next month.

3) Make the voting anonymous so that we don’t know who sent the pictures in (until voting finishes.) 2 benefits – keeps its fair – and secondly anyone who regularly gets zero votes doesn’t feel quite so daft. They can be emailed in to an agreed email address (eg something like [email protected] ) – and all posted up in the order they were received when the competition closes.

4) Keep the themes for the competition as accessible as possible.

5) Perhaps an influential member of the board to PM past entrants from the last two years to encourage them to take part in the 2015 competition.

6) Time permitting – a message to myself to try and take part more. Hardly did any last year.

If there's no currency on any of these ideas - then ...fair enough....I'll climb back in my cave and mind my own business!!

Re the like. I'll post later as on my phone.

@2310 Return

It's now later

Re your ideas:

1. I like this idea. The photos would have to be on the thread though, not the gallery. For random viewing people aren't going to go and look in the gallery , or if the y do they probably won't come back to the photography thread (it's how surfing works). Not bothered whether it turns into a "likes" comp or not?

2. When I was running the photo competition I did it on a rolling basis as people were asking for longer to get their photos in. I don't think it worked. Some couldn't understand it and I was told I was making the competition too difficult.
I personally thought it was fine as it suited me (ie a competition theme each month) but each theme was announced 2-3 months in advance, giving posters plenty of time to take a photograph with just a final four weeks to post it.
eg In January you entered January's theme but you were able to shoot for January, February and March.
I wouldn't like a two month competition particularly. You could enter your photo in early June but it would be August before you knew how you had done - you'd lose interest in the photo after this time.

3. I quite like the idea of anonimity (sp?) of the photographer, but I think we all fall into certain sets now don't we? Not sure how anonymous it would be. Who would have access to the email account and be responsible for posting the photographs? I think I preferred the old "post on the thread" method, though as an aside it isn't immediately obvious who has posted the photos in the gallery so maybe people will judge the photo rather than the photographer if we continue to use the gallery ?? Just typing thoughts rather than any concrete ideas here.

4. Agree with this. On the whole I think they have been - we seem to get a few recurring themes, would like to see a bit more variety of theme maybe.

5. If the photo board is working people will enter - it's obviously not currently. Well it remains a minority interest anyway. Rather than pms to people who know about the board, maybe links to rtg/smb, rtg/parsnip and even rtg/pf if the theme suits. This worked for AB22 on occasion and also myself.

Don't climb in your cave - grab your camera and go and get some reflections pictures.

I'll sort January out on Monday when I'm back at work. Internet has been down at home for a few days

I like the idea of 1). Just keep a steady churn. Also, maybe setting April Theme in January has some great merits - gives plenty time to prepare and shoot.

I'll endeavor to be more active on this part of the board in 2015.

TBH, this part of the board confuses the hell out of me nowadays.
