Did the Yanks save us in both world wars?

An irate Yank on my Facebook has responded to a fishing trip I did yesterday regarding Thanksgiving.

He claims that they "saved our asses in both world wars".

History is not my forte at all, its not something I studied past Year 9 at school.

He's talking bollocks though right?

If anyone did the Russians did. The Nazis miscalculation of trying to fight on 2 fronts Is what cost them. The Americans for all their power could not have prevented the ground March going on across Europe
Aye but the Russians couldn't have done it without American equipment under lend/lease. Same for us. On that basis alone, before you count a single fighting person, the Americans won the world wars.

Without them the war would've been lost. But that doesn't mean they won it. Semantics, perhaps, but fuck 'em.

If he starts again, ask him one simple question.

"Which major war has the United States ever won without allies"?

The answer is zilch, zippo!

They couldn't even win their own war of independence by themselves!!

When he's shut up then reel off our achievements and even those of the French, the Dutch, Belgians etc, etc, etc!

The bad winter while attacking Russia (put attacking us on hold for some reason) there were many mistakes that saved us really. The nazis were tactically better than us (we use the nazi war tactics now) it's just bad judgment and bad luck on their side that cost them.
If they had made just 1 or 2 different decisions then we wouldn't have stood a chance.

As for the yanks saving us, maybe. they did help finally, after we tricked them in to it. They were reluctant to help because it wasn't their war. We leaked a message that weapons were on a boat in the Atlantic and the Germans knacked it. There were American civilians on the boat so their hand was forced.

Us couldn't have done anything without us as a staging post.
Russia would have fallen without supply from Britain (Atlantic Convoys etc).
We could never have defeated Germany on our own after they occupied most of Europe.

After the Battle of Britain When aircraft production and pilot training was in full swing we were pretty much safe from large scale invasion by sea as our navy was far superior.

It's safe to say it took a group effort.

 I am liking that.

Once the Germans were up against the U.S., USSR and an undefeated Britain (and Comminwealth) their fate was sealed.

Each of the three Allies played their part and would have struggled without the others.
And the Chinese?
