Very sad news. Total freak of an accident.

From the stuff I've read, the ball managed to miss the helmet and catch him full on the back of the head.
Aye, hit him in the one place that could instantly make him brain dead according to a doctor on sky yesterday I think

Very tragic news

I'm not that into cricket but surely some bouncers are to get the batsmen to swing wildly, maybe get a slight knock and be caught out?
spot on for being ignorant mate ;)

its about scaring them into unsettling them as batting as mostly about concentration and temperament.

remember watching him hit a century against Durham at CLS a couple of year ago wishing he was our player. such a terrible loss and such a talented cricketer.

Bad times, RIP. Shite to die doing something you love, lets hope Jules Bianchi pulls through.
Anyone know when the last person to die before him playing cricket was?
Indeed. Isn't he now being described as 'stable' though? Very encouraging if so

The helmet he was wearing made no difference. The ball appeared to strike at the base of his neck and no helmet would have helped. It is a tragic accident.

Obviously i feel for the family but also spare a thought for the bowler - how he must be feeling at the moment is anyones guess. He needs support through this as well.

RIP
Agree regarding Shaun Abbot, poor bloke, feel for him massively.

Suggestions are that the newer helmet has a larger grill where it connects the helmet and covers further back around behind the ear. I doubt anyone will ever know but it might have taken off enough of the impact. There has to be a law introduced that you have to wear a helmet in all conditions, I think there already should have been even if it was to prevent injuries like chunky got (sorry for bringing it up).

Agreed, Abott must be absolutely distraught.
Agreed mate (and no need to apologise)

Unreal

RIP

I don't normally get affected by stuff like this, but this has genuinely saddened me

He was such an amazing talent. I've argued his cause for selection in the Aussie team and twitter countless times. But sounds like such a good bloke. Typical Aussie country bloke, humble but hard as fuckin nails and incredibly hard working.

I think this will have a big impact on the game, Watson, Haddin and Lyon were round the bat, starc and Watson were on the pitch. Hughes generation of players, smith, Warner etc, it's going to be very difficult to move on. Can that play with the same aggression and intensity after their mate has gone this way. Can they really sledge players and support Johnson bowling 90mph bouncers. I hope they can but very difficult

Awful, awful news

RIP Phil

Having to switch off talksport, very heartbreaking stuff hearing some of the commentary etc of his career. Such a shame!
