Exactly mate, although common sense and logic not allowed on ref threads

Might be because over their careers their overall performances have been good, after all they are in the top league in the country,so logic suggests must be pretty good to get promoted to the premier league.

Unless you can think of another reason why they have been promoted through the ranks to the top
Company men, the same reason anyone gets moved through the ranks

Yeah exactly mate that is my point if a forward misses easy chances or a goalkeeper makes a few mistakes, they are not judged on them isolated mistakes, they are judged off their overall performance.

It is farcical to say a ref is shit because of 5 mistakes over a 5 year period, surely if he has been a really good ref in his other games that's means he is good.

It's called looking at the bigger picture some people seem incapable of that.
It's because refs are corrupt and don't make honest mistakes they weight their decisions depending on who's playing

I know who Piston is, and to be fair you'd all be genuinely surprised

I am intrigued mate

So when Friend made possibly the biggest mistake by a ref last season against Hull by sending off Brown was that because we were playing that massive club Stoke or because it was just a genuine mistake.

Meant Stoke not Hull

The irony is go on a big clubs fand forum and they will also say refs are against them

Why is that I hear everybody ask?

Its because football fans in the main are biased arseholes who remember bad decisions for an eternity and forgot about good ones in a heartbeat

To say refs are corrupt when players purposely go out to cheat every game is farcical,in fact they will be the most honest person on the field of 23 humans, nobody has come up with a valid reason why a ref would be corrupt and no evidence to suggest such a thing.

Don't get me wrong there may have been times where a ref has been under pressure from thousands of home fans but that will be the same the world over in top the Ice Hockey league,NFL top football league in South Amercia.

It is human nature to feel extra pressure in them circumstances so to say refs are corrupt is wrong IMO,there is a massive difference from feeling pressure and been corrupt.

You've obviously a regular who's been watching closely!!:)

I would say the biggest thing i noticed about professional sport is everyone on the pitch is cheating. Some maybe more than others but every player out there is digressing to some degree. Most of it is accepted to be in the grey area and some in the out and out cheating. The best professionals enter the gray area without getting caught more than novices.

Because of the accepted amount of cheating it's almost impossible to compete if you don't. That's where a biased or plain incompetent referee can make a difference to the outcome. The referee can make "correct" decisions but if he doesn't apply the same rules across the pitch he affects the result.
As a player you only get split seconds to make a decision. Bad referees can f**k with your mindset.

That's ok. Most prefer internet anonymity. I understand.

That's the whole problem with the football culture mate, what you have basically said there is that it is ok for footballers to cheat and admit it is accepted, however when a ref fails to spot that cheating it is his fault not the players fault for cheating in the first place.

Priceless it really is,in a lot of other sports if a player cheats it is frowned on by the rest of that sport, however when a player cheats in football,if is the refs fault for not spotting it,like I say culture all wrong!

No it's down to the gray area. The referee see's most of what is happening but decides what to call. You're not seriously suggesting the referee's don't see any of the holding, grabbing and shirt pulling are you? That is one of the gray areas i'm talking about. All of it is technically cheating but if the referee see's it but does nothing then the opponent has to do it to even the playing field.

I can't think of any contact sport where there isn't gray areas that the professionals work within. To suggest the referees don't see most of it is naive. The referee lays down the boundaries and the professionals play to the extremes of those boundaries, they can't give opponents the edge.
It's when referees apply the gray area to a team differently that there's problems.

No he probably had a bet on or was paid off, I dunno why the idea is so far fetched to you, Lance Armstrong has still to date never failed a drugs test, what do you make of that?

As a one off maybe but surely you not suggesting each of his last 5 decisions against us he had a bet each time or are you?

Lance Armstrong had something to gain from cheating, honestly can't see what a Friend has had to gain by giving us bad decisions.

Firstly if players never cheated it would be easier for refs to get decisions right that is fact.

Secondly it is not black and white refs have different views and angles to different instances so will always be seen differently depending on your view.

Thirdly if a ref gave a penalty against a team for pushing in the box, would fans see the bigger picture and say well done you have seen pushing and gave a pen,no they would come out with something along the lines off,the ref never gave one like that last week or he would not have gave it against one of the big teams, therefore even though he has spotted a push in the box and gave it,fans would still slate him, refs can't win see.

Of course refs see pulling in the box,but everybody's at it,so too difficult to call,he needs eyes in the back of his head, surely you cannot deny if players never cheated it would be easier for a ref.

The third point I mentioned would definitely happen IMO

If he's been paid off by some gambling syndicate he obviously has a reason, I'm not even saying that's what happened with Wes Brown, buy it does happen and I think a sliding tackle timed to perfection and clearly winning the ball less than 20 yards away from a referee is extremely suspicious and I'm tired of seeing it happen not just to us but I'm sure you can remember the game against man United when we were second and they were top, Andy Cole hand ball 5 yards away from ref not sure who then scores less than 10 seconds later, Micky Gray is sent off for abusive language.

Fair enough he will have been abusive, but do you think Roy Keane never swore at a ref, I'll wager there was worse said to him by the United team that night.

If you had to bet you last £100 on whether Brown sending off against Stoke was a genuine bad mistake or that the ref was paid off, which way would you go honestly? If you had to choose between the two,I admit it was a slim possibility that he was paid off but in you opinion what was the most likely reason?

He just missed the hand ball shit happens, the ref in question wrote a book and in it,he states by the reaction of the Sunderland players I thought I must have got the hand ball wrong,so when Gray swore at me I was willing to give him more leeway, however the abuse he (Gray) gave me was so bad and so personal I felt I had no choice to send him off.

That suggests must have been pretty bad what Gray said, although see you overall point of course they has been times when Rooney for instance will have got away with abusing the ref when he shouldn't,that still does not mean ref corrupt, soft maybe.

I dunno tbh, it came at a bad time because Greg dyke basically felt he could pretend arsenal didn't exist and instead was safe to slag us off.

Followed by about 8 games of hand balls not given, wrong red cards given and much more then pdc lost his job, swings and roundabouts, it sounds more like snakes and ladders to me and where's pdc roundabout?

I don't see it that way mate,in every sport from Ice Hockey,NFL,cricket etc, officials will probably feel more pressure in high profile games that is human nature and will happen everywhere in the world.

Are you still babbling on about this? face up to it, some refs are shite especially against certain clubs, I persionnaly blame the club a bit for this, we should tell the FA due to inconsistent deciscions against us, we dont want him reffing us again, and dont try and tell me the top 4 never get to pick who isnt allowed to ref their games

We'd have to get refs from ower seas reffing our games if we went on inconsistent descion making and certain refs not officiating in our games marra

Have been having a debate about it yes but only with people who can see both points of view and have some intelligent debate with,so that's you out then,

f***ing hell there would be sending offs every game, our refs are much more lenient than foreign refs, you seriously don't think that would make it any better do you?

What is intelligent about your stance?

You have a complete blindspot when it comes to refereeing performances, I would go as far to say clueless. They apparently do nothing wrong, their performances when officiating games including any of the top 6 are as bad as when they ref the teams at the other end of the league, check out our next 3 games, all knowing one, then come back and apologise, I dont expect it to happen, very mulish in your opinions

Never said that did I
I was making a tounge in cheek comment to wayne the punk

But I get yer point ower seas refs much more by the book than our lot

Common sense mate, every single week it proves without a shadow of a doubt it is too difficult for the human eye,so IMO if mistakes are made in the next 3 games that will prove my point not yours, which is refs need help not slagging off.

I agree with you they get plenty wrong because it is simply too difficult, that has always been my point, but are obviously the best refs in the country as made it to top league

You've already accepted they cheat, what exactly are you arguing about

Will you admit Kevin Friend is incompetent? Evidence includes the Brown send off, the failure to punish for the Gordon injury and the penalty from outside the box. Not corrupt, incompetent. Agree or not? And in the work place incompetent people in authority are let go.

Its not called a blind-spot its called looking at the bigger picture and its something you are incapable of doing

Every single bit of evidence suggests the job is simply to hard to do yet people like you cant help but call them when they do make mistakes.

Its not called incompetent, its called making a mistake. Is Lee Cattermole a incompentent footballer for making numerous mistakes?
