The teacher at the kid's school has roped me in to 'helping out' doing some sort of talk when they borrow a 'sky dome'. You heard of one of these? Like a mini planetarium I guess

Anyway, she heard I had a telescope so naturally assumed I was the man to lecture twenty 9 year olds on the night sky. Never mind that I've barely had time to get it out of the box

I can feel a load of bullshit coming on :)
 


She was very impressed when I told her it was 8 inches tbf

I've currently got three, main one is an 8" f4 astrograph.

I'm sure you will pull it off, if you spend a weekend getting up to speed.

Just learn the main constellations and tell them what time of year they are visible.

Don't allow any time for questions.

Am I right thinking a sky dome is a portable planetarium?

I suppose I could always google it

I think it's an inflatable planetarium. They had one at the Net Park science fair a few years ago. There will be a projector, but you might need to check they aren't expecting you to bring the laptop with software on it. Stellarium is good and free. Likewise, Cellestia. You might want to acquaint yourself with these.

If you were in County Durham or thereabouts I could send somebody to bail your arse out. A mate of mine ran a planetarium for many years.
