If by some miracle it was to head north no doubt Sunderland would miss out or would ripping up the Sunderland / Boro railway east coast link and making that the HS2 line make sense. No expert on railway lines so wondering what the wise SMB would recommend for a HS2 link north of Leeds - would they just rip up the east coast mainline or would a new line have to be constructed ? I know the Leamside line keeps getting mentioned or is that just be for freight ? Crewe getting a new multi million pound railway station out of this HS2 (Stoke missing out and most upset) but that's ok as Sunderland station has some nice LEDs. Nil Desperandum.

Going south the east coast line is pretty straight and fast anyway. Could get a bit faster if tilting trains were used.

The whole HS2 is an absolute joke. Ex amount of £Bn to save 20 mins travelling to Manchester from London. Now even talking about HS3 from Liverpool to Hull.

In 20-30 years time there will be nowt up here (job wise). If you want a job for the future go and live south of Leeds...!

State of the M62 and how much theyd need to spend to get to anywhere near the capacity of traffic it needs to cope with, even with the amount of work thats currently been done on it,thats mebbes not such a hairbrained idea. get some of the traffic off the road and thin it`s usage down a bit

The harrying of the north has been going on since 1066, through thatcher and onto now. We can't even drive north to Scotland without getting stuck behind a tractor or something. We really are at the arse end of England

It'll go through Durham then Newcastle then Edinburgh, all Sunderland really needs is some actual than links to other areas of the region. Just like the vast majority of the country.

The ECML is canny shite like, misses all the main population centres between London and Tyne & Wear with the exception of Doncaster which is at the arse-end of South Yorkshire.

The whole thing is an absolute waste of money. Hope it never comes off. Considering how long it's going to take to do, and the speed in which technology changes its ridiculous. All for 20mins

Does it really need HS3 money spent though? What will its save time wise from conventional trains some 10-15 mins? Oh and to Hull. Ffs

Like it or lump it matey for all Hull is a shithole its still a major port. And how much are they currently blowing or blown on the m62 corridor thats had little or no effect on congestion?

The 20 minutes would mean a 20 minute band of land that was previously just outside of the commutable zone then becomes commutable.

That will have an impact.

Total is roughly £50 billion of taxpayers money and when it is built it will be leased out to private companies to make a profit.
