Gus Poyet blames under-strength squad for Black Cats' struggles

Pretty much spot on mate. Stand by my assertion that Poyet is tough to like at times (that's not the same as easy to dislike, btw), and this is one of them. He can't on the one hand, complain about not being given enough defenders this summer and absolving himself from responsibility for it whilst, on the other hand, dismissing the injury to the defender he obsessed over getting, Coates, as 'unfortunate'.

I very much doubt that Lee Congerton was the one insisting we banged down Brighton's door for Buckley and Bridcutt either. No one expects him to take full responsibility and in fairness to him the Director of Football model exists to protect him more than undermine him, but it's not unreasonable to expect him to take his share.

I agree with this, but we have to take responsibility for getting Jones as our first choice right back, handing him a 4 year deal. He does look decent when he has played but his injury record is there to be seen, a club at our levels needs our players to be fit 90pc of the time, we just can't afford to carry injury prone players, and this was a very naive purchase IMO

He was free, looking at our summer window i think that fact took priority over him being a bit of a crock. We penny pinched like fuck this summer and if its not sorted in jan we will be looking at barely staying up again, short and those running the club dont seem to learn.

Poyet has stated in todays Echo that he has the final say on any transfers. So he has to carry the can for our underwhelming signings and for the history of injuries they come with.

If thats correct it looks like he was wanting to save all the money to get borini, the budget looks like it was under £20m so reading between the lines most was put a side for borini, his chase for him in the media was nothing short of shocking tbh, when it seems he had nee intension of coming here according to the local media here.

Thing is, we all knew this was the situation, that is why I didn't understand the fans happy to see Colback and Bardsley go. They weren't world beaters but they were settled in the club and knew Poyet and his system, and we have struggled to replace them with Gomez and Jones IMO.

Poyet knew it would be a tough summer on a strict budget, hence why he was so desperate to keep them. The grass isn't always greener.

im not too sure about that , what i do know is he was naive as hell regarding Borini , he must have been reading @Julio posts on here regarding him signing

Borini never wanted to come and made it clear. I think the fact we spent our money on rodwell was the issue. Gus then had to lie to us as short pulled the rug from under him.
What on earth is there about Poyets character that suggests that is even a slight possibility? Gus - or indeed 90% of all manager - lying and making himself look daft to protect the club? Come off it, man.

I have no idea why he lied but he did. Borini was never coming and we spent the money on rodwell.

For some reason we kept on reading that borini might come. It was a facade for some bizarre reason

I didn't hear him moaning at the end of the summer window about this, sounds like an excuse now things are not going how he thought they would, having said that most people new that we didn't get the quality or quantity we should have got in the summer window, cheers Ellis I hope you are looking forward to yet another relegation battle that could have been avoided.

The Borini deal was very much back on a couple of hours before the deadline and all parties concerned were either at the AOL or in contact with it.........the agent wouldn't budge on his demands for £2 million..............
