So who is the fastest bowler you have faced in local cricket and who would you say is the fastest around still playing?

Haven't played for a number of years but watch NEPL and DCL every weekend.
Fastest I faced was the West Indian, Ken McLeod, when he was at Billingham Synthonia. Bowled within himself most of the time but every now and again reminded you of how quick he was !!!
This season, no one of McLeod's pace, but young Gareth Wade at Chester-Le-Street, looked as sharp as any local bowler. (Not counting Durham players).

Only second team level but a pair called Jones and Wake for Gateshead fell were rapid for me, I am guessing you are looking at the early 1990's

Can remember a lanky lad from Burnmoor been sharpish at under 18's level when I was only 14yo or so. Think he name was Fleming iirc

Alec Johnson at Whitburn in the 70s. He was the fastest bowler in the country when he was at Nottingham.

Mark Wood when he was playing for Tynemouth a couple of years ago.

Cessford, who went to Worcestershire, could get it down the other end fairly quickly too when he was at CLS.

Patterson Thompson at Whitburn and Whitmore Quinn at Philadelphia in the 90s.
I would agree with Badger 55. I opened the batting against Gareth Wade at Chester-Le-Street and he was a bit quick on a hard deck.

Chris Matthews of Whickham in the mid 80's before he was called up for Australia. Nixon McLean looked very quick indeed but I didn't play that game and watched from the side.
