I keep a load of wild birds in my garden, they were free.
On a serious note, used to have a tiger salamander years ago. Was a piece of piss to care for and I'd imagine you've got most the stuff you need if you already had a road

My young un got a gecko last year, feed it a few live crickets every night which can be fun if your pissed,pick it's dried up shits out and change its bedding every few weeks. Calm as well, let's both kids handle it no bother.

Had a leopard gecko years ago, easy to look after and canny to watch when they are feeding.
Locusts or crickets down in one head first, and you normally see their legs kicking like fck while they are sticking out of their gobs.
Bit of a twat if a locust gets out and you can hear it but cant find the little fcker.
