Im looking at buy my first DSLR and am a complete beginner, so just wanted abit of advice.

Ive decided to go for either the Nikon D3200 or the D3300 but cant decide on the package. Im looking to spend no more than £400. So ive found:

D3200 with 18-55mm lens - £329.99
D3200 with 18-55mm lens and 55-200mm lens - £399.99

D3300 with 18-55mm lens - £399.99

Im swaying more to the D3200 with the twin lens, but any advice would be appreciated.

I'd pay more attention to lens than body. Those little zooms they give away have a terrible reputation, or at least canon do.

Maybe buy a body new, and then choose a much better second hand lens ....

Listen to ICBYD. He talks a lot of rubbish but he is correct on this occasion - spend the money on one decent lens to start with and forget the kit lenses because if you progress, you won't want to keep on using them and they don't make very good paperweights either.

D3200 £245

Just to balance up the Nikon v Canon debate.
I'm wanting to move up from a point and shoot, toyed with the idea of hybrid/bridge types but think i might get frustrated and wish id gone for the SLR.
I'm now split between the 700D and the 100D. Only difference seems to be the flip screen which id just break within days of getting it. Bloke in Wilkinsons more or less told me to ignore the 100 as it was a womans camera but i think i might be more likely to actually take it with me if it not so huge. Also is it worth going for the STM motor kit lens or just buy the body and get a separate lens?
Cheers

I have never seen or handled the 100D, but I don't really see a lot wrong with it technically, so if you like the grip etc, ignore the bloke in Wilkinsons.

A larger camera sometimes helps when you use larger/heavier lenses as its just easier to hold.

On the kit lenses debate, they aren't great lenses, but they would get you started. Just accept that you will never be able to sell on the lens for much as nobody wants them - so if (when) you upgrade at a later date, you will have wasted the price difference between body only and body+kit lens.

Thanks. I cant see me ever going for huge +300mm zooms so hopefully size is not a problem. Im more likely to go the other way for interior shots.
At least on amazon, the body v body + kit lens is pretty minimal in price. It's even cheaper for one of them.
There does seem to be a difference between the III and the STM motor lens, around £80.

I think the STM is just really relevant for video work as it is silent, so if you are just doing photos I can't see a reason for getting that.

Jessops are doing a deal with a basic tripod if you go for that camera (there is also a discount code to get 5% off so £356 or £369 with the 18-55 lens... "CAMERA5" )

Some of the wide angle lenses can get quite weighty too, but for interior stuff a good chance you would be using a tripod anyway?

Thank Roger. That looks a decent price.
Am I right in thinking that the 18-55 II DC Lens does not have image stabilisation? It seems to be discontinued aswell. I think i need to do some more research into lenses.
