with talk of the kielder marathon this weekend - anyone remember this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-15252687

when the sunderland harrier, Rob Sloan, caught the bus to finish 3rd , what makes it worse is that apparently he was a really god runner anyway (he won the kielder 10k the previous day!!) - anyone on here know him and is he still running ?

Just found out I have been accepted into London marathon..... paid my fee up front, but to be honest just wrote it off, was my 1st application and am shocked I have got in. Will have to train hard over winter which could be tricky for me. Said I wasnt bothered about doing another after Kielder and York mara's but would do the London one if I got in.

There's a documentary about him (it's on YouTube) and at the time it was made he was still adamant he never cheated. No idea if he's owned up yet

I've got told ages ago that he initially owned up and was really apologetic. The Kielder people were going to put a light hearted spin on the story, but quite bizarrely he then pleaded he was innocent

Had he just owned up, he'd still be running now for his club and probably would have done ok out of it.

Tough session. I enjoy it though. Won't be the session tonight although think I'm still going to the club. I'll be wearing a blue Edinburgh marathon top, tall lad with a bit beard. Say hello.
Think I walked past you on my way in. You were talking to a few others though so I didn't want to interrupt.
Enjoyed it tonight though. Ran with the medium medium group although the nature of the session meant you could go a bit ahead or hang back if you liked. I ran the first 2 loops at a conservative pace then the last one I put more effort in, trying to catch faster people ahead.
Very friendly bunch of people and I can tell already it'll help me running in a group. I'll probably turn up on Friday too.

Steve Cram is on the documentary and that's basically what he said. Have you seen the documentary? They interview the fella who really finished 3rd and although he's in the record books as 3rd place, he never got to enjoy the experience on the day or stepping onto the podium. It shows you footage of the cheat getting interviewed just after the finish line and this fella is in the background bewildered. He knows straight away something is not right because he knew he was 3rd. He's just hanging around in the background dying to approach him but he waited to make sure there was no mistake. Low and behold there were a few people who raised alarm bells and the truth unfolded.

I've never seen the video mate, but I'll give it a watch.

What he did was a daft, but it's he reaction in the aftermath which is truly embarrassing.

Has anyone ran Manchester marathon? Considering running this after not getting into London and wondered what the course is like? Is it a bit event etc?

Really enjoyed last nights session as well. Was in Medium Fast and did the four loops.

I should have signed up for the Strollers a long time ago

Will you be there Friday? I was talking to a lad called Lee in my group (late 20's, his dad runs too) and he said not many turn up on a Friday. I'm hoping I won't be out with a load of Mo Farahs
