This season reminds me of Bruce's last

Seems like everyone's forgotten the end of last season!
Beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge ffs!
Our home form should be our strength. The two teams we've played so far will both be in the shake up for the Champions League and they were two canny games where we scored 3 goals.
My only gripe with Gus is that he should have stuck Connor up front from the start but I can understand why he tried Fletcher out.

We haven't been perfect (some people expect this) but we haven't done too bad

We'll be ok imo

We're 17th after 5 games.

We've played the teams directly around us,West Brom, Burnley and QPR. We couldn't beat any of them. Anyone who thinks that something is magically going to change and that well somehow end up mid table is deluded.

How is one place off relegation after playing 3 of the worst teams in the league after 5 games a decent start?

at the same point last season we had lost to Fulham, Palace and WBA - all teams who were in the relegation scrap with us so we have done slightly better so far this year. However the fact that we have not been able to beat Burnley, QPR , WBA and a clueless Man U can only indicate another battle for survival.

No doubt

Once it all clicks we won't need pace, we'll pass the fuck out of them.
This is what people on here don't seem to get. Gus was interviewed after the match yesterday and said the players weren't doing what he's told them to do. I know this is blindingly obvious in a way but once they bed in we'll see his way is better than Bruce/Mon/PDC etc We saw this last year and we'll see it again. Haway!

Early days marra

Let people panic and bitch on, once we click happy days

as manager.

On paper a pretty decent team but in practice we were toothless up top but organised defensively and just didn't win many games, hovering 15-17th for the majority of the season until Bruce got the sack.

The old line 'don't panic, we have winnable games coming up' was trotted out every week and the wins never came.

This season looks to be shaping up as a scramble from 8th-20th, we need to get our home form back from a few years ago and finally start beating team around us.
Except that on paper we don't look a decent team.Absence of pace, creativity oh! and a striker. Paper thin at the back, too.

We've got less chance of winning home games at home against the 'lesser teams' than away imo. We have no pace or penetration and will merely play in front of whoever puts ten behind the ball.

Fundamental change in attitude required. Get out there and force the issue. To win rather than not lose. Holding what you have is not acceptable from the kick-off.

As shit as we are, which results are people unhappy with except QPR?

A point away from home is a good result (West Brom and Burnley).

And im sure most would've been happy avoiding defeat against Man Utd and Spurs at home before the season started.

We have the ability to grind out draws but we don't have much to suggest we can turn draws into wins.

To be fair if teams at our place sit back its not our lack of pace that's the problem (that's better for counter attacking sides that attack us). Its our lack of cutting edge and quality to unlock a defence, either from a killer pass or a piece of individual brilliance (although Johnson can occasionally i guess).

can you elaborate on "on paper"

We have played Man Utd and Spurs at home and faced two of the 3 newly promoted sides away in our first 3 away games. Playing the promoted sides this early is never easy and we ALWAYS get at least one straight away (Palace last year) and that's been going on for years.

We have not been great but we have 4 times as many points after 5 games than we had after 8 last time around and there will again be three worse sides than us this season and with a bit of luck one of those might even be North of us.

Can't be relying on beating
city at home, drawing away
beating Man U away
Beating Chelsea Away

10 points straight off that i'd be very surprised if we even got 5 points from those games

I wouldn't be so negative, I think we'll survive easily this season. The disappointing thing to me is that every manager we had tried different aproaches and formations, but in the end all ended up defending with 10 men while hoping for a lucky goal from nowhere.

Manure and spurs at home, West Brom, QPR and Burnley away. I'd have expected 6 points tbh. We are not that far away.

We miss a Bent type player though and it's worrying our forwards have done nowt yet.

Bruce lost games in the last few minutes AKA Wigan ?

One huge issue is that we have too many players getting up to speed. Although he had a good end to the season, Wickham has not played that many games as a loan premiership forward. Alvarez seems to have good feet and can turn a player or two, but needs some time. Rodwell was a huge improvement and got his first 90 minutes. Giac looked pretty good for the first time this season and 2 years ago we saw Fletcher could bang them in - there is still hope there but I do not think he is a loan striker. Gomez and Jones have not broken through yet.

In a few games time, at least 4 of the above will make this look like a very different team.

If PVAs shot had gone in, we would not be having this discussion and be a comfortable 10th.

get them told hand bottom with one point of 8 games last year yet this year 4points from 5 and with 3 winnable games coming up we could be miles ahead of last years tally after 8games
Oh no, not this winnable games bollox again. We dont score goals man, so its going to be a battle to beat even the so called poorer teams.

worrying times imo mate
Agree totally and the teams we expected to be lame ducks with us like leicester and palace, are looking decent
