Looking at the games we have had this season theres a few massive stand outs that weve got something from that last season we wouldnt have imho. WBA away for starters, yesterday, spurs at home all wouldve ended in losses last season.

Its not pretty and its going to be another shit of a struggle going into the last games of the season again, we didnt do enough in the last window and i question if there is any money there to do owt in the next, but as i say there is slight improvement if we can make one of these fuckers upfront find the net we might be ok again, which is the clubs aim have no doubt on that.

4 points better off than this time last season
Yeah without a doubt, theres improvements there just need one of these fuckers to start scoring or even looking a threat, id be shocked if the main target come jan isnt a forward if we have any pennies in the ffp budget to use.

I don't think we are better. We miss B..... massively. Wickham is mis-firing. But...I though Rodwell had his best game yesterday. A lot depends on Alvarez. Always hope. But I thought yesterday very disappointing.

Our 2 home games have been against Spurs & Man Utd, they're games we would've certainly lost last season. I'll be more concerned if we're drawing or losing against teams like Burnley at home. Our away record has always been abysmal, in all honesty. It hasn't been the best of starts, but going off last season it's certainly an improvement.

Wickham has started two league games up front so far. I'm not his biggest fan but to write him off after that is ridiculous especially given the way we have played as a team.

The only result so far I've been unhappy with is qpr.

Team need a bit of time to bed in, and whilst it's pretty dull, it seems we have a system we are working towards. The word in times gone by was sort your defence out first and build from there.

Happy to be picking up points, and as said above, we would have lost a couple of these games last season.

...

This. In all honesty, Burnley are a well organised team, and if they'd taken a few of their chances yesterday, it could easily have been 3-0. similarly against spurs it could have been 2-5. Jos and Brown give me near heart attacks every game, but somehow usually do just about enough.

For me, the big improvement this season has been Adam Johnson - he's delivered a lot more this season on a more consistent basis. If he and Giacc can produce some magic, and feed the frontman better, we could see ourselves around 12th.

but let's face it, there are a lot of teams struggling to get wins on a regular basis - and it's with wins on even a semi-regular basis that you can suddenly differentiate yourself from the pack - just look at how W Ham have shot up the table by beating Liverpool last night.

I don't think our away form is that bad tbh. Pretty much since we gained promotion we have been a soft touch and hopefully that is now changing.

In years gone by we would have lost yesterday and at WBA

I think we may well be in for another difficult season; the report on the Burnley game is pretty grim: Burnley are relegation fodder and struggle to score goals - fact. What is frightening is that we didn't seem to be any better. So where does that leave us? I hope things start to pick up soon and the team miraculously starts to "gel" or we are going to be awfully dependent on what happens in the January window!

Newcastle, for example, may have started badly - but look at what impact having a striker that can score goals has - (Papiss Cissé). Either the team collectively raises its game ten notches or the doom-mongerers are going to be vindicated (again).

Gus, it's over to you.

Team need a bit of time to bed in,...

You are beginning to sound like Pardew. Excuse #2 in the "Book of the Top 100 Football Excuses" has been rolled out I see. That's another good one to use. I had forgotten about that one. That team are PROFESSIONAL football players. If they haven't gotten the idea yet of how good they are meant to be then they never will. The idea they need "bedding in" like they are some delicate and sensitive child starting a new primary school is bollocks. Why must they feel they need bedding in? Why must they feel they have to play and be any different to the last club they were at?

...and whilst it's pretty dull, it seems we have a system we are working towards.

If you have any idea what that is please tell me.

We are, but we need to be picking up points as I cannot see us going on a run like the end of last season including winning at Chelsea and man utd

We are picking up points mate. Get 4 from our next two league games and it's been a good start

It's the home form that worries me - and the lack of a striker that is going to get us 10 points by winning those "winnable" games at home

I agree mate, the home form is key. That said we have taken two points off two teams who will finish in or around the top 5.

We will know more in 2 weeks time, but if we could get 4pts and progress in the cup, then it's been a good start

Pass pass pass and keep possession.

Quite a few new boys on the pitch and bench are getting used to each other.

I'm siding more on the positive side so far this season, it's been dull but pretty safe.

Different players have different habits strengths & weaknesses. It takes time to pick up on those & read them, second guess them & know your teammates subtle abilities. You're very naive (or clueless) if you believe say, a full back & a winger don't need games together to improve their relationship. Very rarely does it click straight away, even at top teams. History is littered with fantastic players like Drogba & Henry who were pretty shit at first but came good. The ability was always there, it was just finding the way to utilise it.
