I wear compression calf guards and think they're amazing.

I've got some calf guards and some compression tights but I've found the fruit flow just as, if not more effective. SIS do them as gels but the capsules do the same job and are loads cheaper.

No scientific proof. Looks nice though. Right up there with kinesio tape.
It works for me, so I'm going to wear them. Done a 50 miler up loads of hills and had no calf pain afterwards.

Will try the capsules, cheers.

Just an update about the Saturday morning jog/run on the River Wear paths starting from Penshaw monument (13 miles ish) on Saturday it is now starting at 08:00 rather than 07:30
Hoping to get there, where's the meet?

Only teasing. I've got some too, head says they make no difference, heart says I'll try anything to keep shinsplints at bay.

Well, couldn't make the strollers but got a 5km in at 22:24 which since I was pre-20 years old is a PB.

Quite easy PB wins at the minute but still, take what you can on a miserable night like this

Dunno about ice baths but I'm a big fan of compression for recovery. I also use fruit flow capsules, take them before a big run and it reduces inflammation and aches afterwards.
Are they the same as SIS tablets that I've heard about (sainsburys sell them) , or different thing ?

Off to the Strollers tonight for the first time, looking forward to it. Only ever ran with other people during a race so it'll be a nice change to have some company
How did you find it mate ? Ashbrooke to Seafront then southwick the missus said

SIS do the fruit flow in gels. I bought the capsules from amazon, they're sold as a health supplement. There's not a great deal of stuff written on the benefits of fruit flow for runners but I was impressed as soon as I took the gels and wanted a cheaper alternative so bought the capsules.

Really enjoyed it. Went in the medium medium pack and it was 12 X2 efforts.will be back next week to try medium fast

This might sound like a daft one but does anyone have any tips for losing weight? I regularly do around 30-50 miles a week and I don't lose any weight. I'm not overweight but would like to shift a stone or so but just can't seem to do it despite the amount of exercise I do.

If you are running that much, then its down to diet.

Its easy to think "we'll ive ran 10 miles today i can have a curry and 6 pints" which you can do, but you wont loose wait.

Easiest way to help diet is to cut out snacks like crisps, stop eating between meals, dont get takeaways and cut back on the beers.

Dont "treat yourself beacause you've been good", this is the main reason why lasses never loose weight in the way they'd like to, but it applies to everyone.

My diet is ok but it prob could be better like. I rarely drink so that's not really an issue but I admit I've got a sweet tooth like. I think I need to knuckle down after Kielder in a few weeks and start cutting out the sweet snacks. Like I say I'm not overweight but would just like to shift a few pounds which I think would help my running as well.

there is in terms of recovery but not during the run its self. some people find the 'support' element in some way comforting. In my book if you run faster with them on then they work. Its a bit like wearing racing flats for a race - the weight difference is the square root of naff all but the mental thing about putting them on and it 'being time to race fast' works for some people.

I do higher mileage than that normally and have the same issue. I've just lost 10lb in the last 4 weeks using myfitness pal - boring calorie counting is imo the only way to do it.

Do you think it could be that I'm not eating enough calories for how much I run then?

yesterday I ran 8 miles to work, 5 miles on my lunch break, then 8 miles home. Didn't really intend to, but it just happened. Was amazed that I felt absolutely fine at the end and was knocking out sub 7 minute miles no bother.

Day off today to go watch the cricket, then long run Sunday will take me upto 65 miles for the third week in a row. Heady times!

Slow 5 miler this morning. Drizzle was very welcome.
Noticed the last couple of times that I've been out that my left foot becomes really swollen afterwards, far more than my right.
Not painful at all. Any suggestions as to what might cause it?
