Decided I'm going to implement this as part of my winter training. Used to run over Tunstall Hill upto Ryhope back in the day, but it's not really very tough. Anyone know any good routes/trails?

Penshaw is trail running heaven (and I run trail Ultras all over the North so have plenty to compare it too)......Get yourself entered intoThe Trail Outlaws Pieces of 8 at Penshaw. Both the 10k and 13.1 are cracking trail courses with a real mix of terrain and plenty of climbs :)

Trail Outlaws are also looking at putting together a trail running group in the near future, probably in the Washington area and introduce people to some of our favourite local trails (the area is brilliant for trail running) :)

I might be interested in that too. Ran parts of the C2C route a canny few times from Sunderland through to Washington in training but always looking for new routes. Could be really good that!

penshaw be most obvious one ?

tunstall hill/footy pitch etc

harriers xc course at Farringdon ?

I'll have a look a little later, as my work computer blocks out blogs etc. How did the weekend run go Spoony?

Got myself some running spikes, and did some forty and fifty yard sprints last night, walking back to the start line each time. First time I've done any sort of running in a while. Felt a little bit too strong, and took not being buckled over with lactic acid build up as meaning I hadn't worked hard enough and a que to do more sprints. About an hour after, I could barely stand, and today I feel like I've been hit by a bus.

It was fantastic mate. Got my legs fairly soaked going through the fell bogs then took it steady on the downhills to save me knees. Preferred the uphills actually:lol:

The cliff tops to seaham no good? You could even dip off into hawthorn dean. The actual coastline on that route would also be a challenge when the ride is out.

Its not strictly trails but there are a load potentially nice runs along the old Railway lines of county Durham if prepared to travel, three from Broompark for starters was thinking of doing a couple long runs there myself as my old stomping ground, few starting up near Consett as well.

They are listed on This is Durham site, for example

http://www.thisisdurham.com/things-...ailway-path-walking-and-cycling-route-p670131

There's a cycle route all the way to Hartlepool from ryhope on these which is 14 mile each way.
