No matter how good he has been for England, it's a mistake and it's time to move on. We have a potentially good and deep batting lineup

Cook - still class despite his problems
Robson/Lyth/Lees/Hales - tbd
Ballance - excellent at 3
Bell - looked poor for a while but still class
Root - has a home at 5
Ali - spinning all rounder

Add Stokes, Taylor etc and I don't think it's worth the gamble

Thoughts?

Not sure about that,if he gets back to his best would be as good as any batsman in the side,Ballance has done well, but not faced any top class attack yet.

I agree. His averages this season are ok (actually not that much adrift from Muchall's) but Ballance has been excellent and he has the slot for me like, until he loses form over a period of time. If that does happen and he's 33 y.o. currently Trott would be just one of a few that would be up for consideration.

No reason whatsoever why trott should come back. Lyth should be way ahead in the queue, we need that yorky batting lineup weakening

has he sorted out his ability to play the short ball yet? tbf nee one in the england side can anyway. we are missing a saffa in the side....
