Films about Vietnam.

As you'd expect, most of the documentaries are better than the films, pending which angle they are looked from, but a good one is Canadian i think, called the Vietnam the 10,000 Day War. Has interview's with both the American and Vietnamese.

Casualties f War with Michael J Fox and Sean Penn was pretty decent.
If you can find the documentary Fours Hours in My Lai that is worth watching but totally horrific.
Good film, bit unfortunate it showed the LURPS in a bad light.

There's an Aussie film from 1979 - The Odd Angry Shot.
Rather than politics and morality, it was more about how the men coped with their situation.
I remember enjoying it when I saw it all those years ago (and no Mel Gibson)
Anyone seen it?

Rambo: First Blood part II
Universal Soldier.

The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now are good films, but they are heavy going, especially the Redux version of the latter, with about 40 minutes spent with a bunch of Frenchies still living in the jungle.

Platoon, Full Metal Jacket and Casualties of War all excellent. Haven't seen Casualties of War in years and years mind.

I remembered liking Hamburger Hill when I was a young 'un, but after watching it again years later I wasn't as impressed. That was quite a while ago itself now like. Might watch it again some time.

Same here, Thought Hamburger Hill was brilliant when i watched it as a young un, found a copy a few months ago and some scenes were like watching Tropic Thunder

You know, the amount of times people post on threads saying the same thing as I said several posts earlier, makes me wonder if the entire SMB has me on ignore. Happens at least once a day.

Or maybe people are just used to diving in to threads without reading other posts a d I'm in the minority for wasting time reading from the beginning?

Anyway, good flick.

And that's the finest looking wanking machine I've ever seen!

the one with Sean Penn and Michael whatshisname - him with Parkinsons.

Thats canny - sticks in the memory

Brian Griffin - Peter, you only have two white shirts?
Peter - yes. I used to have three but I wore one to Michael J Fox's wine tasting party!

Good shout.

Full Metal Jacket is brilliant but a bit weird - watching it is actually more like 2 separate films with only two characters linking the 2 parts (with one of those only popping up half way through the second section)

The first section is much better in my opinion, but only the second section is in Vietnam (the first being boot camp - a format reused a bit more recently in Jarhead)

Very enjoyable war film Jarhead IMO.

Aye there's not much story there, other than the revelation that having shiny boots and perfectly turned down beds doesn't do you much good in the jungle (docklands).

I love the scene that's just dropped in apropos of nothing with them marching around in their kegs chanting 'this is my rifle this is my gun - this is for fighting this is for fun!'
