Time for Rodwell to compete for his place?

It's as ridiculous as those saying that he should play every minute of every game. Mental.

I don't see the problem in what we are doing now. Getting 60/65 mins out of him and then when he tires bringing on Gomez or whoever.

If his form majorly dips then aye drop him, but if we are talking about dropping midfielders we should start at Larsson.

I might be wrang here like but that is kind of the point people are trying to make. He's not really showing any form to see a dip! Now that might mean things can only get better.....but it also means we are carrying a passenger and really can't afford to be anything but full strength with everyone firing.

I think you're being very harsh to call Rodwell a passenger. I thought he had a decent first half, tired in the second and was less effective.

I don't know why people are making an issue out of it. He's doing okay. Certainly not poor enough to be dropped.

My point was simply that he seems to be the only player getting a 'free pass' into the first team, and is that now the best for him and for the team?

We seem better when he comes off, so why not reverse things and give him the last 30-40 minutes instead of the first 50-60? Yes, it's not as much, but it should still help him get up to speed, and meanwhile we might be better able to get on top of the game beforehand? If that happens won't it even take some of the pressure off his shoulders then? We don't really know, do we, but should we think about giving it a try for a couple of games?

Good players are good players amd show it regardless of fitness !
Dead right, i thought £10 million quid would get us a fit half decent player without a list of excuses as long as the street.

Forgot to mention i watched a film recently called awakenings in which a bloke who was in a catatonic state for 27 years recovered quicker than Rodwell.

I preferred Ki, when he was arsed that is.
Tin hat but we seem to be missing his calmness in deep areas and his ability to protect possession while waiting for the right get out ball. Thats a side issue to Rodwell though, I'm of the opinion he'll come good with games.

Clearly still finding his feet, new club, new players to play with, takes time to adjust. He's not going to be instantly class like some people on here expect. Give the lad a chance, if we drop anyone for the Burnley it should be Larsson imo for Gomez.

Gus said that Rodwell needed games, so he was being left in the team, despite that not being fair to Gomez.

But can't he get his match sharpness coming off the bench until he's actually a better option?
Did fletcher get the same treatment?

They could both have the same issue. For me, you should play the people in form and manage the rest back to form and fitness.

I'm a big fletcher fan, but at the moment, Wickham is the better option. Fletcher should be coming off the bench and playing the cup games

Disagree. Internationals get, what, 2 or 3 days together before a match..? That's all they need, they are professionals.
Rod's issue is sharpness, as you rightly say, and he can surely get that with the U21s..
If we keep waiting for him to get up to speed we'll be adrift like last year before we know it.
It's a totally different kettle of fish. Won't get 1st XI fitness with the u21s.

I agree but if we say that about Fletcher then surely that should apply to Rodwell and Gomez?

Thought Rodwell did okay in the first half v Spurs. Looked completely knackered seocnd half and as per usual Larsson was the only one making forward runs from midfield. I was amazed when he was took off before Rodwell. Mind Gomez did do well when he came on. I'd probably keep it the same next week, people are forgetting that Spurs are a very good side and that Burnley, in comparison, are not.
