Aye, 1.8 mile legs. The routes an old xc one so would compare well . . . canny water feature to jump in the middle too. This race is usually seen as the start of the xc season. First full race is October 11 in cramlington

If anyone enjoyed the P8 route recently at Penshaw I am running an alternative route next Saturday following the tidal path of the River Wear. Around 14ish miles and all welcome. Starting at 07:30 at Penshaw.

Contact me on here or see Trail Outlaws Facebook page for more info.

is there a map of the farra XC route anywhere online ? tried it last night as was allowed to run grass 25mins only and sick of running round silky footy pitch , but a few times the route would fork off left or right and had nee idea which way to go... clocked 3.4 mile at the end of 25mins but was just running round like a headless chicken

Done it a few times couple weeks ago, but couldn't remember it exactly, just follow the path where the grass has been cut !!

aye mate but def at one point there was choice of left/right and didn't know if doing the right way , tried to "jog" the mens route twice and it came out at 3.37 mile so I must have missed a bit, doubt theres a proper birdseye view online anywhere, was just curious , I was probably doin the ladies route

Sexist. Reported.

no mate, she mentioned the name, as she said she went over to encourage her , but I didn't recognise the name, the missus couldn't do it as there was a mountain of ironing to be done

Here's the route from my leg. Was the xc route not just 3 laps of this or was there more to it?

Morning. My first post on the Running Thread and looking for some advice on moving to Ultra marathons (in which it seems a few on here are v experienced).

I've been running for about 6 years, starting as cross training for cycling. I'm training for the San Sebastian marathon at the end of Nov (my 6th marathon) and confident of a PB, going sub 3' 30". At a push I'm hoping for sub 3' 20" if my training goes really well and I stay injury free (I've had cartilage ops on both knees so need to be relatively cautious, although don't have too many problems running long distance).

I'm 50 and so probably not going to get a lot quicker and so it seems logical to move to longer distance as I already do long distance cycling (i.e. 200+ mile rides). My question is about the transition to Ultras. How gentle should I look to ease myself in? Did those of you who are doing Ultras build up slowly (e.g. something like a 35-40 miler, followed by a 50 miler etc)? What kind of time period did you take to build up?

Part of this is triggered by a mate in South Africa inviting me to go and do the Comrades which is 56 miles, in May next year. I'd love to do it but is that too much too soon? Any experiences that you've had would be helpful......
go for it, enter and you will do the training for it.

na, stupid to have it on a sunderland home match day

Thing is I'm proof that anyone can do it. I'm by no means an athlete and if you saw me I certainly don't look like I could run that sort of distance, 8 years ago I could brarly run a mile. I just persisted with it and pushed the training up slowly and then realised I could just keep on going. The only thing that I might advice for those that want to do ultra distance runs is to probably slow down a bit. This comes easy to me as I'm more a plodder anyway and know if you're someone who can go quick over marathon distance then you'll want to get a shift on but ultra running, bar the people who are gonna be winning the races is really just about covering the distance first and time second.
i joined sunderland strollers 2 years ago, in that time i've completed 3 marathons and a 50 mile race around the lake district. people can do anything if they set there mind to it.

I was out for 13 yesterday, felt fine when I was out but as soon as I got back I felt ill and don't feel too good today and think I've got a sore chest type bug. Was hoping to get my last long run in tomorrow before my Keilder taper kicks in but think I'll have to sack that off now rather than push myself and potentially feel worse for it. I'm not expecting any great time for Keilder but would feel confident of beating my 4:25 that I did 3 years ago.
i've never tapered for anything before. i've got a bit of a bug at the minute, affecting my kielder prep big style.

Will be doing a very slow session tonight, probably 10-12 miles
i might not be making strollers this week, family issues, but no one stopping you mate. it's free to try

Got my race info for haltwhistle half marathon today . . .it says there's a section that crosses somebody's back garden and they've requested everybody walk through it! Anyone caught running will be disqualified. . . Wtf  Wish I'd known this at time of entry, would've done Redcar instead

Do they not know how time obsessed some of us are :( I'll be stopping my garmin when I walk through :)
