What must relations with the french government be like?Surely the two governments can come to some agreement,on ways to reduce this problem.I would think the french are happy with as many as possible getting through. If they are illegal, what are the chances of the ones that get through, turning into law abiding working tax payers? And the problem can only get worse,if its not reduced.Again,i'm guessing, but most of them must be Young males, with wives and family at home, that they hope to filter into our country at a later date. There was a thread on this a while back.I said then,it must be hell for the french native population in and around Calais.

just been doing a bit of reading on it given what I saw at the weekend and they're getting close to breaking point with it. it's tolerated until it starts getting violent which it now is. the local authorities want the border moving (effectively the british border starts in france). there's talk of opening a new sangatte style camp.

and yep, the only people I saw there on Saturday were 20 something Africans.

I can't even start to think of a solution. we don't want them, france don't want them, Europe don't want them.

Round them up into a big pen and get the flamethrowers out - that should deter any more

Start with the reason they're here in the first place: vast swathes of Sub-Saharan Africa are completely barren, war-torn hellholes. Solve that problem, you solve the immigration problem.

Christ on a bike. Thousands of illegals combing traffic looking for an open door or truck. Pulling truck doors open and piling in. Gendarmes everywhere, sniffer dogs the lot.

Never seen anything quite like it. Frigging scary stuff. One of them tried my boot! In a traffic jam.

Be a nightmare to live here at the moment.

Coming to a town near you soon.

Collect them all up, put them in a field and deploy napalm. Post the carnage on youtube and that'll discourage future miscreants

Twice, yes. I think I've even been to that big Carrefour place, although I haven't been to France for about 9 years. Definitely been in a big shopping centre in Calais though.

barren, war-torn hell hole it is now

as an aside I managed to get a pair of asics onitsuka or whatever they are called for 16 euros. 16.....at the outlet store on Saturday.

Well ive been made redundant twice and work is there if you want to work. Ya just cant be choosey, ya do what ya have to. I took on jobs totally different to what I usually do and for a shitload less than what I wouldve normally been paid. Its what you do when you have family to look after. So... I reckon theres jobs out there for everyone.
As for immigrants, bthey should be looking at specialist or jobs that are hard for us to fill.

Is this a poorly attempted whoosh?

It's the French central government in Paris and the local government in Calais who need to come to an agreement.

Wasnt it the mayoress of calais who wanted the border shifting a few weeks ago so they automatically became our problem
Cos she's given up bitching about Paris not provided sufficient funds for Calais to deal with the problem. Dunno if she's also given up bitching about the way the Parisian [and other] local authorities direct their illegal migrants in the general direction of Calais.

yeah but that's an ongoing bone of contention. seems to have taken an ugly turn in the last month or so. lorry drivers are starting to carry weapons, authorities are going to smash up their camps in the forest. it's all a big mess really.
