IIRC, its far less likely that the stewards/FIA will do anything if the affected team don't protest. Obviously Merc won't protest their own driver.....

Been today and they paid out, glad they did because I can't see Mercedes allowing them to race each other, but then again can't see them taking much notice of team orders either.

They've done that to most the big corners these days, whereas 30 years ago it was all about putting down as much kitty litter as possible.
