This month I'd like you to show texture in your photography. Not as simple as pointing at a cushion and pressing the shutter - composition, depth of field and lighting all contribute to making texture really stand out in your pictures.

Examples can be found here:

http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/texture-in-photography/

http://www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/2803/visual-design-using-texture-in-photography/

Entries will close on 31st August

The gallery is now open!

Nice theme. Not that there's any chance of me entering that :)

I've actually taken a load of pictures for texture.
Two things have gone wrong though.
a) there are none I like enough to enter really
b) I think my camera has gone wrong - on programme mode (and pretty much other modes too), the sky seems to over expose (look too light) in the photograph, especially if on the grey side. I need to borrow a camera I think and go and do some comparison tests. Any other ideas folks?

But this over exposure on light areas is a new phenomenon. So I don't think grads is the answer.
If your camera is exposing the foreground correctly and over exposing the sky then I can't see another answer. Unless you want to blend hdr's.

Are you shooting early or late? These times will be more challenging for your cameras metering.

Are you framing your shots differently? If you meter for the whole scene but include lots of foreground then that will blow the sky

I will try and borrow another camera and then use both to compare outcomes.

I thought shooting early and late was good regarding light - it is the height of the day that isn't so good (on the whole) isn't it?

It seems foreground looks fine but sky blows too whitish/bright.

I'll put some examples up when I can if it continues.

It is, there is more contrast, but that means your camera needs a lot of dynamic range to capture it all correctly. 12pm when the sun is high and the light is flat it will be easier for the camera.

There's very little different in contrast between midday and evening. Just midday is generally brighter. The difference in stops between sky and land will be similar, unless it's after dusk

And of course morning, evening light is nicer on the eye :)

Lee make a compact system

What is this about hard vs soft depending on sensor size? I've read hard for small sensor and soft for larger.... You always advocate hard though

I thought wide angle was soft and hard for 40mm onwards ?
