GNR 2014

I ended up in the welfare tent a few years ago and they had lovely cakes in there like.

How is everyone's training going for this?

Done a few 10 milers last week, attempted 12 on Sunday but had to stop at 10, which has worried me for the GNR!

did the Sunderland Half in May but haven't trained as much i would have liked to since :(

Done very little training and just pulled my calf and hamstring playing in a charity football match yesterday, so I'm in a world of trouble.

Any advice on driving up from Durham? mrs D is doing the run (I didn't get in via the ballot) and I'm planning on driving up, dropping her at the start and driving to Shields for finish.

The traffic will be mental, no doubt, so am I looking at a stupid o'clock start to get her to the start line?

was going very well until I went on holiday, I did 13 mile on sunday in 1hr35 and I was happy with that as half was effort running and other half was just a gentle jog, was hoping to go under 90mins but im feeling pretty crap at the moment so I will just have to see on the day

Drive to Heworth and put her on the Metro which goes straight to start line then you are in right direction for heading to Shields. Or drop her at Durham station and she can get train to Newcastle and walk to start line (there will be loads of people doing same so she can follow the crowds).

The traffic is never actually that bad heading to the start line, but go over Redheugh bridge and drop her near St.James' park.

My training has gone alright - better than some years, anyway! As usual I've not done enough long runs (10.5 miles and 11.1 miles once each, other than that the longest was 7 miles) but I've run more regularly (3-5 miles mainly) and I've been enjoying my running which is equally important for me.

In terms of sponsorship I'm up to £280 (excluding gift aid) out of a £300 target which I'm over the moon with as I hate asking people for money. Hoping to make it up to the target without too much hassle as I still have several people left to ask.

@Keawyeds apologies i didnt take u up on that place mate my training / motivation went all to pot
ive barely done any running the last few months
been offered a place form a mate whos injured but i struggled doing 5 miles today so im not sure il manage it

I ran two 10 milers before I went on holiday five weeks ago and ran 6 miles last Friday!

Nowhere near the shape I wanted to be in this year!

Don't do it if you think you can't. It's not worth risking your health over.
If you'd like to do it next year, you can

My only concern is gonna be the weather and the heat that I'll have to endure in my fancy dress!

Is it alright parking at heworth? I thought the road would be shut for the race? Dunno whether to just metro it from Sunderland or not

Not sure what time the roads round there will shut tbh mate.

8 or 9 miles for me tomorrow, then 5 miles on Wed and I'll be ready for Sunday.

Anyone doing a park run on sat to stretch their legs?

im tempted to do a really slow parkrun - like a 30 mins one or something
but it depends on how my big run ( about 9 miles ) goes tomorrow
dont want to go into sunday hurting form the start cos il sure as hell be hurting by the end*
