Alright lads, basically I want to get some tips lads.
Basically I have got p-coy approaching soon at the start of December.
I paraded tonight and we were doing hill runs and was totally fucked at the end of it after a slow run back to depo we had to do pull ups. I done 6 and the other lad done 10 and he was better and the hill runs too and I feel like a total c*nt now.
I currently do weight training and run. I run close to 30 mile a week. If I stop the weights to focus more on covering the miles and go on a diet too will this help my running?
Is there any types of training I can do differently too running wise?
I currently weigh 13 stone and I'm 5'11.
I need to be good at tabbing too.

Have a look at Alex Viada and his stuff on it. He's does ultra marathons and is also very strong

Hill sprints with/without a weighted vest. Off-road running stopping every mile to do a 100 press-ups. Also if you're in the gym, just do a set of as many pull-ups as you can between each set you're doing, you'll quickly improve. I also used to circulate a 50 kg standing barbell shoulder-press then do a pull-up straight after, this improved my conditioning aswell as pull-up capacity, which could be beneficial to you.

Cheers for the reply mate I'm gonna get a vest for the runs.
How far do you run for mate?
Do you think just working on my core ( leg weights, back/ pull ups, abs/ sit ups & chest/ press up) will be more beneficial for me that going to the gym lift metal to target specific groups?
Last question to you think is worth me dropping the weight? I'm stockier than most people there.

You sound like a weakling, .......perfect for the paras!
 Got to be a sea hat!

Ninja :lol:Okay mate gonna have a look through to see. Cheers. I'm normally better at pull ups btw 6 is pathetic the hill runs took the wind out of me that's why I was so upset yesterday.... Giving the reg a bad name on the SMB here.

no reason you cant do both. Im just under 13 st and can do 20 pullups easy and run a sub 5 min mile. strength training and speed endurance can go hand in hand if you train properly.

dont worry pal, i only did 6 today…………..though i did have 30kg hanging off me hahhaha

enjoy, just keep at it.

I did P Company 20 years ago. My training mostly consisted of running with a bergen full of bricks and lots of bodyweight exercises (push ups & pull ups).

Good luck mate

I found it easy tbh. It's completely safe and as long as you do what the instructors tell you, you'll be fine.

P Company is half physical and half mental.....

As long as you've trained hard, put plenty of miles in and stay injury free, the physical side should be fine.
The mental side is what lets a lot of lads down. Keep telling yourself you can rather than you can't.
Attitude makes all the difference.

Smoking can seriously reduce your aerobic capacity mate. Smoke less = run faster.

This has nowt to do with this thread but I dont have facebook to broadcast my life anymore. But I decided to watch a film on my phone whilst walking on 15% incline (highest possible) for 1 hour 45 mins, time flew by and enjoyed it. However 2 hours later I barely have strength to walk upstairs and feel like I want to eat all of KFC

Please tell me they have given you a training programme? Have you linked in on the ARRSE website - loads of para based training on there. Get a sensible training programme and stick to it. As an aside, you need a good grounding of steady state running before then setting yourself up for fartlek etc - good luck, you'll need it, and give me a shout if you manage to jump into an operational area in my lifetime - last one for regular forces was Suez btw.
