Has anyone here installed mods on skyrim for the PC? I have played it on PS3 but couldn't resist it at £11.99 in the steam sale. I'd like to install some mods but would like recomendations for which ones are worth bothering with.

its a lot of effort making a lot of the mods work as it requires a separate application for many. If your gonna play it for ten I wouldn't recommend bothering.

If you do, it'll make it a completely new game to console versions.

I have reloaded mine and attempting to heavily mod it.

Finding it very difficult to keep the game at all stable. Hope the final thing will be worth it after I have spent a motnh trying to make it work.

I am mate, Im following http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30936/?tab=1&navtag=http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/ajax/moddescription/?id=30936&preview=&pUp=1.

Taken me about week an a half, and one full windows reset and yet to find anything very stable. Just tried my latest attempt and it seems good although not all the mods appear to be working 100%. Ill keep at it till got it to be the best it can without 15 min crashes.
Get shot of ENB, you'll have a much easier time

Well you were right, after a month of faffing and countless reinstalls and a computer reset I gave up with ENB and was able to use all the other mods without any issue. Shame really as they do make a big difference.

Try some of this shit (Thor'd to hell):

But why would you want or need to make skyrim prettier?

Lighting Essentials

Climates of Tamriel (CoT)
- Completely overhauls Skyrims weather systems and outdoor lighting
- CoT has a major effect on my of the ENB mods listed on the Skyrim Nexus due to its changes to outdoor lighting.
- Incompatible with RCRN

OR

Realistic Colours and Realistic Nights (RCRN)
- Incompatible with CoT
- If you are using this, you need to make the RCRN launcher point to the SKSE launcher.
- Overhauls lighting/weather/adds visual effects all in one package.
- Note: The weather currently added by this mod is nowhere near as good as Climates of Tamriel.
- If you don't want to fiddle around with ENB you can use this.

OR

Realistic Lighting Overhaul (RLO)
- Overhauls the lighting throughout Skyrim.
- Compatible with CoT, but do not use any of the CoT interior lighting or dungeon modules
- Incompatible with RCRN

Visual Mods

Legend
{PLUGIN} - Denotes this mod also has an associated plugin file

Texture Mega Packs

Texture Pack Combiner

Alright, if you have 1GB+ of VRAM, a lot of free time, and are willing to download 5GB+, then you can use texture pack combiner, to merge and pick the best possible combination of textures. Read the link above, it covers the majority of the mods below.

Skyrim HD - 2k Textures

aMidianBorn Book of Silence - High Resolution Texture Replacer Package

- What started out as a simple project to retexture the game's weapons, armors, and unique items, has turned into a full blown project to provide some of the best retextures available. It goes without a doubt that this mod, despite the odd name, is becoming the definitive retexture pack to use.
- Includes several downloads for each category (Weapons, Armor, Unique Items, Creatures, Landscape)
- Includes variants for Glass Armor (Steel Glass, Thalmor Glass, and Golden Glass) with a new plugin to include all 3 in the game.
- Includes variants for Ebony Armor (Golden Ebony, Black Ebony, Silver Ebony) with a new plugin to include all 3 in the game. The same applies to the Ebony Mail, minus the plugin.
- Cabal is supposedly working on a separate package for Automatic Variants

Additional Lighting Mods

Lanterns of Skyrim - All in One {PLUGIN}
- Adds more laterns to main roads, and towns, without the stupid engineers CLARALUX has
- If you have Dawnguard: Dawnguard Patch

Weather Mods

Supreme Storms {PLUGIN}
- Makes snow/rain storms a lot more intense.
- CoT/RCRN compatible

Weather Patch for CoT - Fog and Overcast Weathers{PLUGIN}
- Improves upon the foggy and overcast weather patterns of CoT
- Compatible with Supreme Storms (Pick up the Supreme Storms version on the download page)

Consistent Stars - Climates of Tamriel Patch{PLUGIN}
- Fixes the unintentional error of stars changing colors/patterns overnight with CoT

Visual Utility Mods

IMAGINATOR - Visual Control Device for Skyrim{PLUGIN}
- Gives you the ability to summon a npc that lets you change visual settings such as contrast, saturation, gamma, etc in game.
- Note Currently there is a bug, that if you summon the NPC and you can't seem to talk to him. Save your game, load and then resummon him, and it should work.

Night Sky Mods

Inside The Nebula

Enhanced Night Skyrim

Lorkhan's Vision - Night Sky

Lorkhan's Vision - Moons

Insanity's Moons

Environment Visual Mods

Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM {PLUGIN}

Realistic Water Two {PLUGIN}
- An alternative to WATER

- Instead of Lush Trees you can use Diverse Trees Expanded, under optional files (thanks Oceanbound)

I appreciate that, thank you. Although I have the vast majority of them and could still see a good difference in the 10 minute periods I could get enb working without crash.

Its not a problem really as I enjoyed the process of trying to get it al to work and feel as if I have gained little knowledge of how systems work.

Is there any talk of a new one at some point as that may just call for an upgrade?

It was 5 years between Oblivion and Skyrim so you'll have a while yet. ESO only came out this year so it could well be another 5 years before we get a sequel.

Specifically bought a new pc in preparation for ESO, played the beta for 2 hours before deciding against touching it again. I have completely shunted that from the series. Wasn't it made by a different group?

Skyrim must be 3 or 4 years old now?

Anything else you could recommend to cure my graphics modding needs, maybe wait for the new witcher or something?

Skyrim came out 11/11/11, so coming up to 3 now. All Bethesda have announced are the evil within and battle cry as far as I know.

New Vegas has some great mods if you have it sat in your steam library.
