Global Warming/Climate Change

Can you define what a "denier" is please?

Better still, I'll give you an example.

Someone who starts a thread claiming to be "curious" about Global Warming/Climate Change, and then disputes every point put by people who believe it's more than just a natural occurrence.

Nice way to avoid answering my question. But there you go.

If you read my original post I said I was curious why nobody seemed to talk about it any more and that Israel/Palestine seemed to have replaced it. Never got an answer to that either.

I didn't avoid anything. It was maybe a bit sophisticated, I'll make it simpler. A denier is someone who denies something. I used you as an example, and gave an example of you doing it.

I think most people just saw it as a rhetorical question, to start a thread where you'd let us know what you think about Global Warming/Climate Change.

You couldn't seriously be wondering why the Israel/Palestine conflict is hogging the news?

"A denier is someone who denies something. "

So what am I supposed to be denying? If you mean I am denying that the Climate changes, I don't deny that.

"I think most people just saw it as a rhetorical question, to start a thread where you'd let us know what you think about Global Warming/Climate Change."

I only have your word for it that is what "most people think". In any case look up "Argument Ad Populum".

"You couldn't seriously be wondering why the Israel/Palestine conflict is hogging the news?"

Yes I could. Why do you think it is hogging the news ?

You've disputed every point put to you by people who believe the current climate change is more than a natural occurrence. You're denying what they say is true, and now you're denying being a denier.

You're good at this, which is why I used you as an example of a denier.

I only have your word for it that is what "most people think". In any case look up "Argument Ad Populum".

You were complaining that nobody's bothered to answer your question, which gives a good indication of what people thought of your question. Not worth answering.

Yes I could. Why do you think it is hogging the news ?

Seriously?

It's the same reason anything hogs the news - because it's news. Stuff that's new or just happened tends to do that, which is why we watch it.

No, we are just carrying on as normal and not shitting our pants. My mum having a bag for life is not going to stop the imaginary apocalypse that the feeble minded believe is imminent.

Feeble minded? The vast majority of respected scientists are feeble minded?
I agree the example of the bag is true. Even if the UK ticked every "green" box it would have only a tiny contribution.

The phrase "imaginary apocalypse" just shows the Climate Deniers have won their PR campaign. They did a grand job but they had it easy really because the lazy way out is to pretend it can't be happening.

I hope those two old yanks are correct in their sermons (the second one to smug, chuckling colleagues and supporters). They both remind me of Milford Wolpoff a bit. Old, stubborn, unquestionably bright but seeing a name to claim their 15 minutes of fame. So... moving on.... let's hope they're right and the vast majority of the scientists have got it all wrong. If not, we're left to deal with the consequences and that is where I think the resource should be shifted.

Being a bit disingenuous here aren't you? There's a very specific and pejorative reason why those who support the theory of man-made climate change use the phrase "climate deniers" and that is because of its echoes to "holocaust deniers". It's meant to tarnish and, as such, it usually signals that the argument has reached the point of slagging off and name calling.

I would take it by your use of the "Darwin Fish" that you are an atheist ? I am too and I think that everything should be open to question and debate, not simply a matter of accepting everything you are told or what everyone else believes.
So your reply saddens me; if you can't see the disconnect between "vast majority of the scientists " (you don't name a single one of them) and your statement "those two old yanks" then I cannot help you."Those two old yanks" are eminent climate scientists and Christy was a Lead Author on the IPCC until he realised that his figures were being twisted to mean things they didn't say. But they don't tell you what you want to hear so like a god botherer you go with the flow. "Old, stubborn, unquestionably bright but seeing a name to claim their 15 minutes of fame." Not fame. As Christy has said, if he went with the official line he would be rich now but it is important to him to tell the truth; I guess as the saying goes "you can't handle the truth".

Denier and denial are pretty commonly used words tbf

You've read up on all this a lot since post 1 ;)

There nothing pejorative about it at all, and bringing up the Holocaust is a bit melodramatic.

I deny that the current climate change is entirely natural. Call me a denier as well if you like, I couldn't care less. It's a statement of fact.

any one who denies climate change and mans role in it is either , uninformed, very stupid , is earning money from the causes of it or is a paid lobbyist

Just curious, everybody used to be talking about this a few years ago but it seems to have been forgotten about.
What's the deal?
People knew that whilst the subject and the evidence may be compelling the Earth has had small things like Ice Ages etc. the planet is continually heating up and cooling down over periods of millions of years.

The other side of the coin of course is that governments use such matters to increase taxes eg green ones!

Let's assess all the evidence in an impartial manner

Oh, hang on
