Sledging

I've never really been on to sledge - maybe the odd comment about a bad shot but no more than that - as said i find it a bit cringeworthy and uncessesary in local cricket.

I tend to just get into arguments with the opposition players who are umpiring and giving every f***ing ball that is anywhere near leg stump as a f***ing wide even though they generally beat us with 10 overs to spare in a T20

Was a few characters there when I played for then early/mid nineties. One or two absolute bellends as well
For some reason they love themselves there even though most of them are from Peterlee but think they're too good to play there.

Ian Conn at Burnmoor gave me absolute pelters when I was batting at their place. Though the full side were giving Simon Brown (think he's at Sunderland now) at the other end an absolute hammering for not walking on an edge. Quite personal some of it as well, though I think he was oblivious to most of the stick.

Not sledging but I remember Ashley Thorpe singing and dancing in the middle of the wicket to the song "From Paris to Berlin" after a major collapse of wickets. Paras Dogra had been cruising and Thorpe skittled the rest quickly to win the game

Tiger ? was he actually awake , he tends to dissociate quite a bit, probably never even realised he hit it
Canny lad though and a good bat , does ok in prem 1's

Dont mind it, Play hard on the pitch and shake hands after thats all it should be.

If you choose to sledge then make sure its nothing personal just banter between teammates about the batsman, Works better than direct talk from what ive experienced

I always found that the lower level you go, the more stupid and aggressive the sledging is. Sledging is not about hurling random insults at the batter but trying to get inside his head and make him do something stupid. 2nd team cricketers just hurl abuse at the other team for no reason. NEPL 1st teamers try to get in the batters head and place doubt.

Bad Sledging - "You are f***ing shit, your the worst player I have ever seen you fat ****". Batters thought response to this is "Well he's obviously a complete bell-end who is getting angry because i'm doing a good job".
Good Sledging - "I really wouldn't want to be you right now mate". "I don't know if your good enough to face this guy, I've seen you play before and I don't think you are". "This is your time now mate, your chance to shine, Don't fuck it up now".

Fuckin terrifying that mate , hope I never have to face you, least not without my mam being there :lol:

Not meant to terrify tho is it? It's eating away at any doubt. Dunno why but never really consider this sort of thing sledging which of course it is. Always think of it as the more abusive stuff. Maybe I sledge more than I thought

Would it bother you like ?

If i batted tonight after scores of 0, 9, 0, 15 in last 4, f***ing anything would bother me next up including a crap tea:)

No, it probably wouldnt. Just stating its intention really

Think you are right on one aspect

Sledging is about getting in people's head so surely it is about how intelligent and witty you are,not about whether you play in NEPL 1st division , just because you happen to play in that league does not mean you are better at it than somebody playing in say a lower league.

I don't play in NEPL division. My mate does and he saw some random guy going on like a cock and explained why it doesn't work to get angry and start hurling random insults. I also never said that people in NEPL are "better than other people", only that they play this particular game at a higher level so know what they are talking about. I just try to learn from them.

There is some pretty basic sledging goes off in the NEPL. Q from CLS managed to get himself punched a season or two ago at Benwell, you dont get punched for wit. Generally the better players have just learned not to take the bait
The main thing with sledging is to try to get the bat to play where you want him to play , leave less, attack when he doesn't want to , play to your field , so you rubbish his posh side play to get him to try to prove you wrong or knock his power so he goes over the top . " mind the windows Tino " ?
.It rarely works to just get someone to lose confidence, not at any standard anyway , they tend to know their ability

No point sledging you , you're doing just fine
