Patrick van Aanholt on loan............

Under 3 million he is useless as they didn't even want a big fee for him.

Over 3 million and we have been robbed/wasted money we could have used on other targets.

Sound about right?

Seems about right, though no? If the transfer feed is not bang on $3 million (not a 1p under or over) i'm getting the bed sheets out for a protest.

If PvA comes in wed be daft to bring in Rose/Alonso as well. If we did, we'd have problems giving them both enough games to keep them happy but also we would be left with only five defenders to cover the other three positions. Once we finally sign a left back we need to ensure that the rest of our incoming defenders can comfortably play in a couple of positions.

I know what you mean Cabbage, but if PVA becomes our 4th defender, we still need three more to make Gus' seven.
Surely at least 2 of those must be CH's, which would make it six. I'm sure that out of those six, a few would have or could fill in at RB if they had to. I know Brown and O'Shea ain't quick enough anymore but in an emergency they could, Vergini too if he comes back, maybe even Larsson.

But once again LB is the position where we don't have any cover, even if this guy signs.

We can't keep moving our specialist RB (Jones) out of position to cover LB as we did with Bardsley. Either buy two LB or stick the kid on the bench every week if he's good enough. I hope nobody mentions Roberge.

He's a recent Dutch International. Can't imagine how you felt when we signed Alonso (no caps) and Rose (only U21 and very few Premier games). The club gets castigated for taking so long and then we may do a deal quickly and.......

 I'm only jesting man for the bed wetters on here.

I am sure he will be canny, I have never ever seen him play, trust Gus this summer though

How many times you seen him play? Nobody has any idea whether he will be good for us or not! Calling him a joker is ridiculous.

Jim White and Sky mate.

Nah never seen him play at all, I have no opinion on him either way, but if Gus thinks he is good enough then get him in

Good post. However I'd hope we could find someone who can operate at left back as well as in the middle. I could see us going for someone like that Bosnian monster, Bunoza. He wouldn't expect to start but would provide cover for a of couple of positions. He wouldn't cost the earth either.

Reading Gus in the press now it's become needs must we seem to be on plan z now on the target list, I doubt this lad fits the original check list of proven premier league player.

I've never seen the lad play, but will reserve judgement until I have. I hope someone is bookmarking this thread in case he turns out to be class!

It is disappointing situation (not particularly the signing as never seen him play) but if Gus wants Alonso, just go and f***ing get him, been negotiating with a deal for Alonso for months and still nowhere near, can't be that hard!

What do some people get out of being so negative in life? It must be a pretty shit existence to be constantly worrying and moaning about things you can't control

I half agree with you like, but many use football as an outlet for stresses in life, I know I do, its all irrelevant really, but everyone needs something to talk about.

Yes it can

Well I just mean, he isn't that in demand, I just get the impression we are haggling too hard, if we paid the money we could get him. How many players have we signed over the years, close to 10 every season, millions wasted, here is a player the manager really wants, we know he can perform well in the league and in big cup matches, and we seem to be struggling to raise the funds for him.

We spent 14 million plus on Giacherrini and Altidore for example! We just seem to have morals with money on certain players and not on others, that's how it feels sometimes.

I think people who are still expecting us to sign Alonso/another left back are going to end up disappointed. It doesn't make sense for Van Aanholt to come here just to sit on bench after proving himself in a lower league for past 2 seasons.

Personally I think this could be a canny signing, he ticks most of the boxes you'd expect for a modern day full back, much rather take a chance on a young lad like this than some of the 28/29 year olds we've been linked with.
