Congerton

Why are you sorry for him? It's not like he's unfamiliar with such a role. He has worked with scouting networks, has many contacts throughout football and not only can he not drum up some decent transfer deals, he can't even sign the fuckers who were here when he joined. He has offered nothing so far
Nice to see our fans giving people a chance - as usual.

Anyone who thinks Borini should be an easy transfer is as mad as Piston.

Are you for real. He knew what he was getting into. We are weeks into pre season and he hadn't got a transfer over the line. Borini we have bid 14 million which I think most think is over the odds for him. It's not as if Congerton had been working on this deal all summer and got us a great price. He could have offered that opening day of the transfer window and it would have been accepted.

Like yourself i've already been a bit critical of Congerton. In hindsight though he has so little effect on what's happening it's hard to judge if he's good or bad. He's just like a rag doll strapped to a rodeo bull.
Whatever plan he comes up with is so governed by outside forces he probably may as well not bother.

True he is governed by others. Just hope the lad comes good. So want him to.

My opinion isn't unlike yours. I just feel it must be extremely difficult task when so many outside forces govern and dictate everything he does. Each deal affects the next with regards positions and money.
Until we get a solid core squad again this whole things gonna be like a f**king roller coaster.

Stopped reading at " no idea "

There's a few big words in there so it's probably just as well.

I wouldn't disagree with that........he needs to make it happen

well, so far we would all agree the 'DOF approach' has been a let down.
fact is we are not an 'attractive club', having spent the entire season at the bottom with only a wonderous escape saving us the only way we will get top class players in is by paying the kind of wages we (a) do not want to pay (b) cannot afford to pay, and (c) will put us at odds with the Fair Play crap.
our next problem is the 14 million we have offered for borini (which, strangely enough is the only offer i can remember being publicly mentioned...to keep the fans quiet, maybe?) so now any selling club will most likely look to up any transfer fees on players we enquire about.
we now need a man with a cool and calm approach who knows he has enough irons on the fire to get the players we need in.....only time will tell if congerton can pull it off.

He does, that's why i think he rightly went in for Borini at possibly a bit more than he wanted to. He needed to get at least one peg in the ground and he expected Borini to be the first. F**k knows what's happened since the bid but it's almost certainly sent everything else tail spinning. I'd be very disappointed and astounded if he didn't sound out Borini first. In my opinion that part at least would be gross incompetence.
As you say, he needs to get a couple of big posts knocked into the ground so the other bits can be fitted around.

Funny one. Something tells me Gus and a DoF just won't gel. Few players Gus has said he's not interested in recently who we have been strongly linked with and a few Gus has said he likes, we haven't bid for.
It's a shame as I think the model could work well if they share a similar vision but suspect Gus is too stubborn to fall in line

I said on a different thread it could be just another excuse to point the finger when things go wrong. It's too easy for people to blame each other and in a highly competitive market like football things are never going to go right for long.
I could see it working when a DOF/Manager have had a previous relationship as Manager/Player where it's almost like father and son. Like Bobby Robson and one of his trusted players or Alex Ferguson and one of the Giggs/Scholes/Beckham's.
It needs to be a relationship where there's complete trust and neither has a reason or desire to outdo the other. I'm not sure just throwing two people together who've never even met each other, never mind worked together can work on a regular basis just because they passed a job interview.

I knew Colback's exit would affect the guy but not to these levels. See a shrink there mate

You've got Colback on the f**king brain. You need to get over it like the rest of us.
Colback's long f**king gone but we're even longer away from replacing him.

Sorry but are you for real mate? What a pile of shite this thread is. The man took the role on and has been doing the same job elsewhere and extolling the virtues of the DoF position in interviews all ower. If he then can't actually deliver well no, I won't feel sorry for him - he can fuck off like Di Fanti and I'll feel entirely within my rights to be pissed off with him and Short etc.
I'll give him a chance however, the windows open a good while yet.
Feel sorry for Congerton. What a buffoon man. Rant over. Sorry.

Ive been more critical of him than you. I'd like to think he'd have enough vision and organisational skills to make sure the enormity of this seasons task isn't repeated down the line but will we get to find out?? Bouncing from pillar to post is not how we should be operating. He isn't responsible for the size of the task but at the moment he seems to be swimming against a spring tide.

As i said, he can organise whatever plan he wants but every time he goes into a shop the goods either aren't for sale or reserved. At this rate the incompetence of his predecessors may have an impact on whether or not he gets the chance to make a good long term DOF. At the moment he's just fire fighting blazes that others started.

Window remains open for weeks... why don't you withold judgement on Congo until the window closes??
