I'd happily see Colly taking guard here next season.

He has plenty of time to join the England coaching set up.

I think that s why he is talking of playing on as the England door has just closed on him. Started the season off well with the bat so that is a good sign. Would like to know where there is an opening at Durham to join the coaching staff.

Be better to think about it in September when he's f***ing knackered

I like the way he says he's learnt by watching others while he himself has been coaching and has introduced some new tecniques into his own game and improved. Makes me wonder what exactly the England coaches were doing all the time he played for them.

if you think we can't make room for him i think that is pretty bizarre.

Where is their a position open, and how can they afford another coach when they are laying off people left right and centre.

a position will be created for him if need be, it would be farcical to let go of someone good enough to coach internationally if we have the opportunity to keep him on, working with the kids or a specialist coach with the seniors or soemthing. after geoff cook's heart attack we managed to shuffle everyone around a bit to accomodate him carrying on, i don't see how it would be a problem.

as for finance when colly does retire we wouldnt be paying him a player's wage anymore. an incoming player to replace him would be on substantially less money, probably a youngster and the staff wages for collingwood would also be lower than what he was earning as a player so it would probably be a net gain to us wage wise anyway.

He'd get better offers than that scenario tbh

I think there's a job at Durham for Colly for as long as he wants it. I don't for a second think any of the existing coaches would be kept if it meant Colly had to move elsewhere to take up a coaching role other than in the England setup.

but he is a durham lad, perhaps he would rather work here? he could stay on next year in a player/coach role and work his way up to the top as benkenstein was supposed to, if the option was that or jump a year ahead of schedule by leaving durham and going somewhere like derbyshire i think there is a good chance he would rather be here.

It would all come down to money I reckon. If there is no money to accommodate another member of the coaching staff they can't very well get rid of someone to make way for him.

They could quite easily get rid of someone by not renewing their contract, coaching staff are not on long term contracts.

Who would they get rid of though? The front line coaches are all well established long standing employees. Cook might decide to retire but I doubt it. He could always take over as head of security as I understand John Handy is no longer at the club.

I don't see Colly's wages going down for a coaching role

If they were likely to he could surely improve them elsewhere, prolly with a top job in div 2

Colly's present contract will be quite substantial as it's protected from his England central contract. A role, solely as a coach, would attract a far smaller salary.
The England hierachy have a stategy meeting today with Richard Halsall tipped to be sacked. If that's so and England will hardly dispense with a fielding coach then Colly would surely be the stand out man for that job.
