Hey, with the advent of CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, if someone could ID a couple of single nucleotide polymorphisms that seem to be markers for elite level muscle synthesis then we aren't far off!

Don't get me wrong mate, I've been saying for years that it won't be long before testosterone, insulin, GH injections etc are the least of people's concerns in elite sports, it will be f***ing extreme gene doping or whatever it will be termed.

Yet, given that supplement companies have literally marketed almost every bullshit concept under the sun, I'm surprised I haven't seen some sort of product claiming it can give you better genetics.

The saddest part being, if they were to do it, it would probably sell. One of the most common things I see is "My genetics are shit".

There's probably some form of it already, although it normally seem to take ten years before it reaches the public, think it usually goes something like: clinincal trials on AIDs patients > trials on horses > horse racing > elite athletes > blackmarket.

In an industry that sells 'carb blockers' and 'myostatin inhibitors', I'm surprised nobody has attempted to sell bottled genetics mate

Ha ha, there would definitely be plenty of takers :)

I should really make the effort to read to the bottom of the page before posting!

well there's only so much you can do to keep breaking records, without selectively breeding people for sport it's not possible to keep progressing without enhancers.

A bit of Progress made today, I know its light in the grand scheme of things but for me benching 75kg 5x5 is pretty daunting and I managed 5/5/5/5/4 !!
After my epic fail at 72.5 a few weeks ago (which was only a top set) I'm really pleased (as well as frustrated that I couldn't get the last rep out)
Also managed a best of 110kg 5x5 squats, they felt pretty ugly but I got through them, gonna repeat next session and try and get me form right. (I remember when 85kg felt heavier than that!)

Been back on stronglifts since the back end of March after two previous attempts at it I get bored to easily.
Enjoying it more this time but had first failure the other day on ohp 52.5 managed 5/4/4/3/3 but I've learnt to accept this.

Coming down with man flu, so gonna skip tomorrow. Might go Saturday after a day of Actifed!

My eldest has spread his germs through the house and were all suffering but it's not man flu, just a cold (woman flu?)

Get it done man, you'll feel better for it!
I can't even walk from the kitchen the the living room without dropping snot on the floor, I wouldn't inflict that on my fellow gym goers!

Same here, deloaded to 40kg on Wednesday and it was easy, no doubt I'll get 42.5kg no bother tomorrow then fail 45kg again on Friday!

I've deloaded to 37.5kg and incorporated a pause between reps with as good form as possible and a slow negative, it obviously felt quite heavy but I'll try the same at 40 next session and stay on these a while to see if it helps (might as well try!)
It helped my squat progress (thanks Titus)

However! Got a wake up call yesterday, videod my 110kg squats and realised I wasn't hitting parallel , gonna have to deload and get me self back in the hole!

I've deloaded my squats a fair bit recently after getting advice on my form. It's delayed my 100kg by a week or so but my back and knees feel better for it!

Going to be doing a session with @The Spezial One and possibly a powerlifter/strongman friend of mine.

Not sure on what session like. Maybe deadlifts, because I rarely see anybody in Cleveland Road deadlift?

DL's are cool by me mate. The only place to do them is in the squat rack, I maybe see 4 or 5 other regulars doing them but not so much really. A lot more people are starting to squat now though.

That's usually where I do them like mate. Don't like the feeling of people in close proximity while I'm deadlifting so in front of the benches is a no for me haha
