I work with an Afrikaans lass. She was in Holland for a while, I asked her if there was much difference in the lingos and was surprised when she said she spoke in English as she couldn't communicate with Dutch in Afrikaans. According to her its the youngest language around.

I know Sicilians that talk to Italian relatives in English for the same reason

Most Dutchies i know understand the Afrikanners but think they talk really weirdly.

Gaelic gave me a chance to learn a new language while at the same time a reason to learn the history behind my family tree. It's a beautiful language and should never die. The powers that be would love us all to think the same, talk the same etc... because that way we are easier to control. As soon as we give up on our past and what made us unique we are dead.
