Very much depends what you want!

Something which is highly customisable but not as nice to use = android. Also remember with android it may take you a year or more to get the "latest" version due to their pathetic rollout rules and operator involvement.

Something which is a lot more restricted but runs smoother and has a lot more support = iOS

Both are brilliant for their own reasons. What would be ideal is a hybrid of the two!

For iOS try the iPhone 5s - it's brilliant but then the iPhone 6 is due in a few months...

For android - the htc one m8 will take some beating.

Recently upgraded to the Nexus 5. Have no complaints so far, very good phone. Previously had the IPhone 4S and found the Nexus' battery life lasts longer plus seems a lot faster when running apps.

I had an LG touchscreen about 10 years back that was very similar in looks to the iPhone 4. Admittedly it was absolute dog toffee mind

Missed a trick there I think! ;)
LG G2 - that's what I'm getting 'cos my iPhones are knacked and I'm not going to pay for a new one ... I don't need multi Gb storage so a 16Gb sim free for less than £300 seems decent to me. It'll make calls and txt and photos and music and pictures and maps and browse and mail and I think that's all I really need.

No mate. Was donkeys years back. One of the first touch screen phones iirc.

You never had an iPhone marra
I had 3 mate loved them until I discovered android. Ended on a 4s when looking at the 5 I thought it was wank. No different at all.
Android phones piss on iPhones, the only people that disagree have never owned an android.

Remember the iPhone 4s was TWO YEARS older than the nexus 5....

Subtle improvements which just keep making them better each time.

I disagree with you and have owned almost every high end android phone over the last couple of years, so your point is instantly invalid.
