Lose all credibility when they come out with stuff like that.
Newcastle under Keegan were an outstanding football team.
That's pushing it a bit mate. Man utd were outstanding when they won the treble for example.
They won nowt. They were a decent team for a couple of seasons no more no less. And coincidentally in this "outstanding team's" greatest season, it was ultimately Sunderland fans who enjoyed it the most.

3rd, 6th, 2nd, 2nd and later 4th, 3rd, 5th

Which two out of those seasons were we merely 'decent' for?

So apart from spending £50 million, losing a 12 point lead and starting the rot that saw you relegated, what would you say we're the main things he did? In terms of trophies, titles and so on.

Keegan invented football back in 1992 man, ye jist divvent undastand!!

Pardew had you finishing 5th, up there with Keegan?

Unfortunately, through work ,I had to endure watching most of those seasons.
The football played was excellent and only jealousy can prevent anyone from seeing that.
Thank fuck you're shit now though.

one of my best mates is a mag (aye its been good). and he is sensibly one of the few who hates keegan for what he did.

the man was possibly the only man who could have fought against what ashley has done. but he wimped out and fucked off back to his life of exile
Don't agree
I think he was smart enough to realise he would have no say on player recruitment & decided it wasn't for him
Most mags I know agree

Maybe if he comes back and finishes 3rd and 2nd within 4 years of saving us from relegation to League 1, yes.

We all know they had a very good side 1st time around under him, hard to admit though.
Remember singing about andy Cole doing fuck all and Keegan being a clown while watching us get beat of teams like Brentford and oxford:oops:

The Mags are still in mourning for losing Keegan. There was a bloke on Talk Sport this week getting all sad about the Keegan era and how he misses it. They won't ever move on and even if they became PL champions, they'd still complain that Keegan wasn't there anymore.

Once Schteeve is sacked, they will end up with another Championship manager because no PL manager will want the job.

What adjective would you use to describe those finishes?

The first four 'excellent' considering where we had been in the recent history leading up to those finishes. and the last three 'very good' after Robson had righted the wrongs of latter-Dalglish and Gullit.

It's a bit daft to suggest Kevin Keegan done anything but an excellent job in his first stint as Newcastle manager. Ultimately he fell short of the pinnacle but it was a monumental achievement in comparison to where we were just four years earlier.

Hmmm I think most would have enjoyed Ferdinand and Shearer more than Paul Stewart up top on his own mind

Agreed, it's all relative though, isn't it? Excellent seasons for Newcastle, but they would have been decent to poor for man u for instance.

Of course and for Newcastle United and where they came from, those finishes were excellent and Kevin Keegan performed excellently as Newcastle manager. If you asked neutral football fans I'd wager at least 95% would agree
