Browser problems IE and Chrome

Anyone ever have a problem where for eg Chrome only was able to load google the pages like google and gmail, but nothing else?

Was it a virus? Clicking the wrong key? Or something else?

Windows8. Chrome and IE have the same problem. Just wondering what type of issue it is? I'm guessing virus or similar.

Try this, found on Google.

Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available" under advanced settings
Also right click on the Chrome shortcut icon --> properties --> compatibility and check if it is running in any compatibility mode or not. If yes uncheck it and run again normally.

Reinstall it and see if that has fixed it? Don't use IE, it is shite. Or try Firefox browser instead.
Have now reinstalled it. Same problem. No web pages open except gmail. The link given by pinza above -> "this web page is not available".

Does anybody think it is a virus issue?
Have scanned laptop and run malwarebytes but they didn't find any issues.

Sounds like a browser attack although they usually target IE and actually block Google.

Assuming that you're using some flavour of Windows then try restoring your system to a suitable restore point.

I have avg. Is AVG Secure Search a browser hijacker?

It would appear to be; hopefully, you'll be able to follow this link.

I've just actually followed the link and it's very involved. If you're able to go back to a restore point then that would be far less effort... good luck!

Run Malwarebytes in safe mode to see if that finds anything or reset your internet settings and see if that does anything?
