I too was at Trent Bridge that day - it was his comeback from self imposed exile and within an hour he'd ran out the local hero.
Boycott did a really good batting masterclass on channel 4 a few years back and certainly knows his stuff, but aside from that I agree with all of the points you've made.

I was working in Doncaster back then, at the NCB offices. The radio was on and it was all 'our Geoff is coming into bat, he'll get a century' - and then - 'our Geoff has just run out Randall, but no worries he'll still get a century' - and he did. I've never forgiven him for the run out though
