Credit cards

Lumped my house rennovations on a 0% one. Will pay back as much as I can every month, and when it gets close to the expiry of the 0% deal I'll balance transfer anything that might be left onto another 0% deal. Cheapest loan you can get if you play it right and don't go mental.

I agree to an extent, but its a combination of the two. The credit cards/easy credit encourage people to by things they can't afford, and if you are weak minded or a thicko as you put it, you will easily succumb to that encouragement.

I know of several people who have had debt collectors turning up at their parents' house because they took out a credit card and bought a big telly or went on holiday.

I treat mine as cash. made the error of buying a hifi as a young fool and kept rolling the debt instead of paying it off. £250 hifi cost about a grand in the end.
Pfthfthft. Small time. I was getting about £200 cash out every month on it, as well as paying for groceries and holidays, and only ever making the minimum payment. The mrs was the same. Ended up owing about 100 grand.

How much do you owe now?

Why did you do that?

Just use wonga man. Ffs.

I don't see how using Wonga would improve my credit score to be honest.

So why do so many people find themselves up to their eyeballs in debt off them? Are you saying all their purchases were essential?

In most cases it is because they are either reckless or just plain stupid.

Cos I didn't want to miss anything, so everytime I wanted to go out, I just got money out, regardless if I had any or not.

You racked up £100k of debt from going out on the piss in Sunderland?

In most cases it is because they are either reckless or just plain stupid.

Credit cards encourage this stupidity though, for example sending out countless application forms that people never asked for.
