Trott reveals why he left the ashes

Whoever is responsible-Trott or ECB, or a joint effort-for this, it's revolting, given how debilitating and damaging Depression can be, life threateningly so in certain circumstances. If anything I feel like Vaughan has been very restrained given his personal experience with seeing what Trescothick has gone through.

Surprised by the reaction on this thread, I had a great deal of sympathy for him after watching it.

Vaughan saying "conned", less said about that prick the better.

Surprised? Why? Try explaining to England supporters who spent loads to go and watch that, why someone bailed so early. He'll be alright now to bat against sub continent lads in English conditions though. I'll bet that central contract panic is setting in, too.

I can have sympathy with a player being burnt out, but to let on (and this is probably the ECB more than Trott) that it was a stress related illness, linked to depression is totally misleading and trivialises that illness. That's what has upset people. Not surprised he's burnt out, England simply play far too much cricket.

I have sympathy with the guy clearly he wasnt mentally right. The worrying thing is he doesnt seem to fully understand his condition

Very very naive, similar attitude to michael vaughan

Mental health is not a black and white issue, you aren't either depressed or not depressed, there are grey areas, and he openly admitted he suffered bad anxiety, which is a big part of mental illness.

He might not fully understand his condition, it is a dangerous game criticising someone who is borderline, I have had issues myself and it is hard to understand what you have, how bad it is and how you should react to it.

Idiots like Michael Vaughan don't understand this, blokes a pompous tit.

agree with this completley. My worry for him is it going to end the same way if he hasnt understood the main issue which for me after listening to the interview and looking at his career is OCD, your correct in its not balck and white but 4 months off is nothing when having mental health issues and his burnout could start even quicker this time if he hasn't rectified those problems. Coming back a 2nd time from this will be even more difficult.

Good luck to the fella I thought he was open and honest and could easily have done the easy thing and put it down to depression etc. People say he bottled it but we had only played one test, which even looking back then we still had a chance to turn the series around infact england seem to lose alot of 1st tests.

Points taken. But, with respect, Vaughan...like you and like me is entitled to his take on it. If Trott has issues, as before, he warrants sympathy. The experts/his advisors should make absolutely sure his recovery is not compromised by having him play test cricket...that is my issue. I can't think of a worse place to be if he is suffering from mental illness. I now don't know what he is suffering from...do we take his latest word for it? What else can we go on?

He's f***ing pathetic. It'll be an absolute disgrace if he ever represents England again. The soft shite.
have you ever met someone with depression? ever had to deal with it yourself? did you ever meet poledancer? I hope you or the ones closest to you never get it as I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Not denying depression is bad like but jump to conclusions and accuse me of being that ignorant of it if you want. Trott wasn't depressed...

The issue is that Trott may have claimed he was suffering from this awful condition when he wasn't. We'll never know the truth...but I think we are all agreed that a return to test cricket would be wrong.

Agree with this

Not only was it knowingly hidden under the veil of mental illness, but the ECB also took Warner to task and demanded an apology for him saying Trott was a bottler, which it turns out was exactly the case

Someone out of Trott or the ECB, or both, pretended that a serious illness was involved when it turns out there was nothing of the sort. That's not just a con, it's a spit in the face of people who actually have to deal with Mental Illness[DOUBLEPOST=1395066453][/DOUBLEPOST]

So he's gone off with depression or stress or whatever it was, for how long? And you think he hasn't asked a Dr, indeed been made to see one, in that time, to test for Depression? It's not like he's being muddling along in life, having to fit in a visit to the GP around a day job.

Depression is pretty black and white. Mental health isn't, but Depression is. It's not a bad day, a bad week, a bad every other day, a bad few months. those can be signs of it, but they aren't it. It gets on top of you unless you get on top of it, it's not like a bad or sad state of mind, it's a constant presence which you either combat or surrender to it. If you have it, and you don't fight it, you don't just get on with it, because you can't. It owns you unless you own it. There are lots of ways of treating it-medication, therapy, all sorts-but it's not something which requires anything less than total commitment to manage. You can't have it for any length of time and not know it. If that's all depression was, it would be no biggie. I've cared for someone for four years with it, and know a good number of other people with it.

I work for a mental health charity as well, and also have acute anxiety. It's not in my interests to be anything less than fully supportive of people with mental ill health, but by the same token it cheapens their genuine suffering and plight to make it sound like it's something which is vague and fleeting.

Looks like Trott is back tracking a bit now. It must have been the most shambolic cricket tour in the modern game.
