As Sunderland supporters, this is surely one of our most prized possessions. It is the biggest and best modern day purpose built stadium in Britain. More importantly it is better than St. James' Park and the Riverside Stadium put together. Bob Murray once said that Sunderland fans need never worry, even if it's only one seat, the SoL will have more seats than St. James' Park (he lied).

The Stadium has a quarter of a mile of bars around the concourse, but you wouldn't think so when you're trying to get a pint at half time along with 48,000 other people! A half time trip to the toilet isn't too much fun either. Despite these slight down points it is still a far better place to be on match days than Roker Park.

Our beloved stadium holds just over 48,000 people but rarely see the full capacity due to the visiting teams fans not taking up their full ticket allocation. The magnificent two tier West Stand and North Stands are visible from all over Sunderland, it may be impressive from outside, but from inside the stadium it is breathtaking.

The West Stand

The North Stand

The best place to sit in the Stadium of Light must be the North Stand or the South West Corner of the ground. These areas seem to have taken over from the old Fulwell End for atmosphere and singing during the games, and in an important match environment, the noise generated by the fans has to be heard to be believed, deafening doesn't even begin to do it justice.
