| What a dull arse day yesterday was. Find these down times such a killer, I realise it is the nature of the work but it doesn't stop it being fucking mind numbingly dull. Had a few drinks with my flatmate last night, the usual thursday beers. Had a goog laugh. He quizzed me about not attending old Aussie friends meet up. I tried to explain as best I could my reasoning for not wanting to be amongst those people but it's hard getting across your personal feelings and why they are there when they aren't necessarily logical, but I still feel them. He didn't agree with my reasoning but I think he at least understood my reservations. I wanted to make it clear that I didn't hate the people or owt, it was just shitty times and shitty memories. Memories can be a powerful thing. They had the fucking massive machine peeling off the top layer of the road again last night. It was cool, bit tracked monster. Seeing it come round the corner was quite impressive. Middle aged bloke was perched on the top driving it. Must feel fucking brilliant driving one of those beasts. All those years digging up roads and the like must seem worthwhile when you're driving a bit multi tracked vehicle that could only look cooler if it had some crazy guns on it. Been rattling through a new science type book. All about alternative universes and that, called 'parallel worlds'. I do wish the authors of these books would agree to have a small companion book explaining relativity, quantum theory and the birth of the universe. That way you would just read that before reading all these books and the authors wouldn't need to run through it all at the start of each book. Can't think how many times I've read explanations of the above at the start of a book. But, it's still crazy stuff so maybe it is worth re-reading just to say 'yep, it's as crackers and amazing as I remember it being'. His explanation of why we are lead to parallel universes is very interesting, I hadn't read an explanation that was so clear. I still love the concept of the universe having pretty much zero energy when everything is balanced out. When reading these things I find myself having to think 'but this is the world and universe that I belong to', it can feel somehow distant. Like when I was reading about the 10 most influencial space photos the other day. Most I'd seen before but one was a picture taken by Voyager from about 4 billion miles away. The earth just made up one pixel, a pale blue dot. (this is the link to the photo http://www.nyu.edu/econ/user/debraj/Misc/PaleBlue/PaleBlueDot.htm ) Seeing the earth in that, so tiny, so very very small is another one of those moments where you just think 'FFFFUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK'. I'm on board that thing. Was reading about how the famous earth rise photo from the moon landings forced many people to change their outlooks to the planet, seeing it alone in space in that way, faced with a photo of it suddenly makes it more real. Apparently astronauts and the fellas who walked on the moon often come back with a feeling that they want to look after the earth, a more benevolent attitude to the earth and life on it. Seeing that photo of the 'pale blue dot' just makes life on our planet look so desperately alone in the emptiness of space. Yet even that distance is so tiny. The collection also had the image that the Hubble telescope took of a tiny piece of dark sky on sort of a long exposure. It's just absolutely filled with galaxies. And that's and absolutely tiny area of sky, about the size of a tennis ball viewed from 100 metres i seem to recall. The vastness of it all, too much for the brain to take in. Just read the speech that is below that pale blue dot picture. topper. A snapped half of a baguette has been by the salt bin on the main road for about 4 days now. sorry if the font is shit but I'm going to type out blog entries in my email then submit them, to avoid losing entries, like this morning. | ||

| Who thinks many vehicles would look a lot cooler with large guns attached to them. My car, for instance, would be much much cooler with a gun turret on the top and a missile launcher strapped on the side.
And I like this planet too. I've also a pechant for apes, and sitting in a pub drinking beer. Luckily we've both met each other - so we're obviously not the same person. | |||
