fig rolls - one of the best biscuits aroundTuesday, August 29, 2006
So work begins as usual.  I'm faced with the realisation I shall be painting fucking clouds (never easy at the best of times) for the next few weeks.  I'm bored of it already and I've only been doing it for an hour and a half.  and most of that was spent browsing the net.
Plodded off to waitrose as I needed my fruit and juice supplies for the week.  There was an angry young bloke in a suit being very aggresive to someone on the phone.  I passed a ruddy faced pensioner sat on the wall by the recycling bins just staring at the trains.  I walked in to Waitrose and a woman had her child on her lap while waiting on the wall, the kid was pissing about sticking her head into her belly then flicked her head up, catching her mam right on the chin.  Looked like it fucking knacked.  They had some of the 'Cranks' range in but seem to have chosen two of the shittest ones.  The falafel wrap (I just don't really 'get' falafel, just seems to be bland mush) and the other one was a variation on fucking cheese and chutney.  If you are going to stock one of the vegetarian range, choose a decent flavour as there's plenty cheese variations to go round - the onion bhaji one, the chilli cheese wrap, the carrot and humous....
So I opted for waitrose own cheese and chutney.  It has halves of cherry tomatoes in which are rather nice.
They are digging the path up outside of work and guess what has decended onto this pavement bottleneck?  the fucking survey taking people.  They always gang round the bottlenecks, just like those cheery bib wearing charity shits.  But this means they are right outside if work so I have to get the phone out and have a pretend conversation every fucking time until they finish up on the paths (which won't be for a while by the look of it).  Bugger.  Still, it was handy I had my phone out as one of the girls (not the same one as before, this one is offensively ugly but quite canny) from the building front desk got in the same lift.  I opted for pretend texting instead of striking up some horrid small talk.  She had obviously decided the same as she browsed her phone.

I'm a bit of a falafel conniseur, and I can understand your frustration. But I'd make two points.

1. Falafel is meant to be eaten with something moist - tahini (though I personally dislike it) or a lemony salad (a bit like tabbouleh without the cracked wheat).

2. 90% of the falafel in this country is turid, dry and flavourless. It should be a dark brown, with a crispy shell but slightly moist in the inside. It should have a tang to it when you bit into it - sounds like Waitrose have been scrimping on the cumin.

Painting clouds allows you time for blogging. Bit like my job sometimes, I spend more time on here than I do working.
Still, as entertaining as ever.
Welcome back.
