Time for a change

of direction.  After spending the last three years living down south doing what at best can be described as a career unfriendly role(can't progress any further, unless people die), I have decided to crack on.  To this end I had an interview in Newcastle last week and have one down here tomorrow.  Admittedly, the one down here is within the same company - but it will at least give me some skills that I can take away with me should I ever wish to leave.  The interview in Newcastle didn't go great... but I suppose you never know.  I'm not, however, building my hopes up too much.  I do know that I could do the job, whereas the one I'm going for tomorrow would certainly need a lot of work to get me up to the required standard.  Still, the company likes to promote from within so it may lead to a more junior role than the one advertised.  Admittedly, family reasons mean that if I get a choice between the two jobs then I'll be moving back up North very soon.  We have to move anyway, as it's becoming very cramped in our little flat.  Somehwere affordable(130k), with at least two bedrooms and a reasonably sized garden would be a good start.  It is unlikely that there'll be anything like that within commutable distance from Watford though.  Which means we'll have to rent

Speaking of the family, we're all ill at the minute   I'm still making it to work somehow.  I had an appalling attendance record in my old job (indeed, I had to have a sickness meeting with my line manager) and yet here my last day of true sickness (I'm not including my pre arranged time off for my ankle op, here) was in April last year.  I certainly don't feel any healthier than at that time, just more inclined to say no to time off.  The bairn twice got his fingers stuck under the telly yesterday.  He's not normally allowed (and, indeed, takes no interest ) to watch TV, but we have somehow ended up with a Postman Pat video.  This has passed tighter controls than the BBFC in their heyday, and we watched the first episode together.  He loved it, but it appears that he is now trying to work the TV himself to watch it again.  He's been a bit fragile since.

Had a lush, home made, potato soup for me dinner today.  This was even though I nearly mullered it by incorrectly calculating the volume of water to be added (by a litre).  It was a bit flavourless, but the addition of a stock cube and some flour for thickening saved the day(I'd just like to point out that I didn't make it, hence the reason it was tasty even after a major feck up).

Well, I'm going to do some swotting up for my interview.
