Its the letter season

Just like buses, none for months then a load together.

In response to the letter we published yesterday we have received this:

I am writing in response to the letter you published online from Tony Reynolds. I bet you won't print this one, because his was so sycophantic and is obviously the type of correspondence that titivates you.

All I want to say is that the measure of a true fan is one who sticks with his club through the bad times as well as the good. Mr Reynolds, however, gave up his season ticket when the club really needed his support, but now is jumping back on the bandwagon when the club is successful.

Fickle fan indeed!!!

Roy Lilley
Auckland
New Zealand

Editors note : People in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if Mr Lilley still has a season ticket.

The point of printing yesterday's letter was that I felt Tony Reynolds is exactly the type of fan that Niall Quinn is trying to persuade back to the stadium.

Like it or not, fans have deserted in droves over the last few seasons. The letter from Tony indicated that the tide is turning. People are starting to believe in the club again and are returning just like Niall hoped they would.

As Tony said, he has been a fan since 1958 - hardly fickle. But he had clearly become seriously disenchanted with the club. Not everyone will welcome him back, but personally I'm delighted to see people returning. I know the current owners will be too.
